Red Ruffles

Post by GeekyRach »

Firstly I'd like to thank everyone for welcoming me back after my absence, it's so nice to be stitching and be part of this forum again :D

My latest start is Red Ruffles from Maia, here's what it will look like when it's finished

Image

I've bee working on it for about 2 weeks now but haven't had an awful lot of time to stitch, and here's where I've gotten to

Image

Last week I got a floor stand, and since then I've been using it to stitch 2 handed. I love it! Can't believe how much quicker it is this way, I wish I'd done it years ago. The only slight problem I have with this design is that it's stitched on 28 count evenweave, 2 over 2 which is much larger stitches than I usually do and so, to me at least, the coverage doesn't look that great, I hate that I can see light shining through the stitches :( But I like the fact that the design is so big so I didn't want to change the count and shrink it it all. I'm hoping that once it's pressed and framed so there's no light coming from behind it it'll look much better.

Working very long hours the next couple of days but then I've got a rare weekend off so I'm hoping to get much more done on this then and I'll update you when there's something worth looking at!

That is really eye catching and gorgeous and your progress is great too. I am sure it is going to look fantastic when it is all done.

I love the floor stand too and using both hands is so much faster.

Glad to see you back. Your new design is lovely. Maia seem to have lots of really different designs lately. This will be stunning. I agree that you were right to stick with 28 count, it'll really give it a wow factor. I use 28 count nearly all the time, and never have a problem with coverage.

Stunning design - and wonderful start!! :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:

I've worried about coverage on lots of occasions myself and have always been happy when the piece is washed and framed. It will be stunning!!! :D

That is BEAUTIFUL!

I hate Aida. Started the last project on 18ct because its an all over pattern and the fabric won't show, so I imagined it would be easier. But its horrible. I'm forever missing the hole and much prefer evenweave.

If you want total coverage on your 28count you really need to do 3 over 2 but I like the effect of the fabric just showing through myself. Remember that when you mount it you won't have any light coming through from behind, so you will get an occasional glimpse of the fabric, but not any 'light shining through'.

I think you'll find 2 over 2 will work well. I just finished this on 28 count Monaco and I think the coverage was great. (scroll down a few posts for the close up pic)

Here's a quick update for you, I'm now onto the petals which are pretty big blocks of colour and so will hopefully stitch up pretty quickly.

Image

I love the colours in this, the picture doesn't do them justice, they're so bright and summery!

I was hoping to get a lot more done on this this weekend, but didn't have much time to stitch due to making plans, me and my husband were talking over breakfast on Saturday morning and somehow ended up deciding to start trying to have a baby! :D

So now I need to get cracking on this to make room on my frame for some nursery stitching (hopefully before too long!) :x: :x: :x:
