Photography (photo to quilt link added 5/21/11)

I've seen a few people mention photography as another hobby and I've become really interested in photography over the past year. It's mostly because my DH and I spent our wedding money on a decent camera, a Pentax K-7. There's no looking back now! I found a few online friends that have helped me out, and I wrote up a year in review here.

If anyone else is interested, or an amateur like me, it's a pretty decent site. There are some good articles, a forum, and a weekly contest, which I happened to win last week with this picture:


So if anybody would like to compete this week, or there's a macro contest on right now too, or just share photos with me, I'd enjoy seeing your work!

Love your pictures, especially the droplet and the bud - is it from a lilac tree? You certainly made a lovely pic of your cat too, he/she looks so interested in what you are doing. Congratulations on winning a prize.

Those are great photos. I just posted a thread about taking simple ones. Wish you were here to take my photos for me. I love your close ups. The cat of course is special, but the flower buds are just elegant.

I'm not good when it comes to taking pictures, I'm happy if I can manage to take a picture of my stitching without violating the colors completely

Thanks so much for posting the link to the site. I'm going to show hubby, it might be just the thing to spark his interest again.
He loves photography and had just got a new camera when all this kicked off with his job and so work problems have kind of over ridden his interest in anything else.

I love the picture you won the contest with, but your others are great as well.

Thanks threadbear! I hope FPZ helps, it's a fun group. Like I said there's a weekly contest, and there's also a macro contest on right now where the winner will get a prize. The host of the contest is providing something, he won't say what. Hope he enjoys it!

It's not all about the camera Faith, you can learn a lot of techniques, etc. just to be able to take better pictures and learn how to post process your photos. It was very helpful for me.

Wow, one of the members just had this gorgeous quilt made from one of their photos. I'm not familiar with some of the quilting stitches, but thought some of you might be interested.
