Hi! I'm new on the block...

Post by seastitcher »

At present, I'm home recovering from surgery for breast cancer. Gratefully, it was caught in time and had not spread; UCLA has an excellent radiology department and caught mine early enough (during my annual mammogram) to head it off at the pass.

One of my favorite things in life is to dig out several of my boxes of Just Cross Stitch magazines from the 80's and 90's and look at them. The designs are so beautiful that I find it soothing; kind of like going to an art museum without leaving home (which I can't do at present).

I live in Los Angeles, California but much of the TV I watch is British. I have seen every single Morse more than once! I am an secondary English teacher (working as a substitute at present due to the lack of available teaching jobs) so I've read a lot of plays, poems, stories, novels by British writers (among others) throughout the centuries. I love to read, stitch, and take walks.

Re stitching: I just finished a cross stitch bread basket liner for a relative. I am working on (dare I say it) a needlepoint design done by Peacock Tapestries; I bought it for $5 from "Rose Cottage" in El Segundo which, for many years until it went out of business, carried mainly British designs in needlework. I am looking forward to being on this forum. It is a first for me.

Welcome to the forum from Brisbane Australia where it is warm and humid - again.

Congratulations on surviving cancer and I pray you will heal well very soon. Top marks for it being picked up and dealt with early.

There are others on here who do tapestry from time to time as well. Hope you can post a picture of it soon.

Another welcome from Australia but this time from Newcastle.

How lucky were you to have your breast cancer picked up so early, shows we should all have our regular checkups.

Welcome to the group. I too am a breast cancer survivor. I was diagnosed in 2008. I had surgery and radiation. So far, so good.

I am newbie on this forum from Millburn, NJ. and I am a Breast cancer survivor too... just 5 years out. diagnosed in 2007 I love to cross stitch and do other forms of embroidery. It keeps me sane... the world just drops away when I stitch.
I am a graphic designer and work on the computer all day so stitching is heaven for me.

I hope to learn a lot.

Wishing all who suffer from Cancer speedy recovery.

Hello Seastitcher and welcome from Bedford in the UK

I was given a tapestry kit for Christmas which I am trying to work up the courage to begin, having never attempted this before. I'll know where to come for advice :D

Isn't it lovely to just read the magazines and enjoy the designs? Also playing with threads and fabric -- in fact this hobby can give so much enjoyment without making a single stitch :-)
