Here is the start of the White Nine-tail Fox storykeep by HAED. For a 'bookmark', it's pretty big!
I'm stitching it on storm-grey linen (labeled as 28 count, but is really 25 count... which I didn't know when I started, and by the time I figured it out, it was too late to restart and it seems fine), 1 over 1. This is the SK for my nephew, and I will have to keep at it to have it done by Christmas.. it's several times larger than the Fragile SK I did for my niece.
Here's the pattern:
and here's my progress so far:

But I have to ask... um... why does the fox have 9 tails? How does he manage to control them? What are they FOR? Is it some legend, a story, what? I'm really curious! Never heard of a 9-tailed fox before...
The artist of this piece is Stephanie Pui-Mun Law and many of her pieces are inspired by Asian myths and legends....the nine-tailed fox or Kitsune appears in many asian stories, just google kitsune if you want to read more about it.

Thanks everyone! And thanks also for answering the question about the nine-tail fox... I love Stephanie PM Law's artwork, she's extremely talented and has a personal style I really enjoy. She does myth and legend work on a huge range from around the world, from Celtic and Welsh to Asian, as well as some Greek mythology, plus loads of fantasy work. There aren't enough hours left in my life to complete all the cross stitch I'd love to do of here work!
Jennifer that is going to be awesome and you have made a good start on it too.
Thanks nachosmiley for the info - its always interesting to find the reason for some thing that seems odd to us. That's my 'new thing for today" My grandfather always told me that it is good to learn 1 new thing every day.
