Susan's Crochet Corner

Post by SusanF »

I thought I'd start a thread here to show some of my crochet projects. The Ripe Wheat doily is crocheted using Anchor Freccia size 20 thread.

:applesauce: that is lovely. Before I discovered cross stitch I crocheted. (can't knit cause there are too many stitches to worry about). Yours is so elegant it almost looks like tatting to me.

oh, how beautiful! :applesauce:

my grandmother taught me to crochet. she used to do those same lacey things as you. and when i'm not stitching, i crochet...i love it! but, i only do large projects w/massive amounts of yarn. for example, afghans...

your work is so lovely. thanks for sharing it. it's very nostalgic to me.

I am very jealous of your absolutely beautiful crochet  I struggle crocheting the edge of a facewasher but I think the lace crochet is just amazing.

I'm so glad you have shared this because it's gorgeous :balloons:

Please share some more with us.

Thank you for all of these lovely comments

That doily was the 3rd I've made - I did two at Christmas as table decorations using #10 thread (similar to perle no5 I think), so they were quite a bit bigger. The wheat one was much harder to do as the thread is so fine (perle no12 ish), but it was worth it in the end. I loved making them all, there's something very therapeutic about crocheting rounds like that! The only thing is I don't really know what to do with them. I don't really have anywhere suitable in the house to display them, so at the moment they are just lying in a pile on the spare bed :( :(

Here's a photo of each of the other two (yes, they are lying on the spare bed  )

:applesauce: They are beautiful. They are the first things I have seen in a long time that almost make me want to crochet again. But I think I will stick with stitching and just admire yours so much.

Very lovely Susan. I used to love doing crochet but can't do it any more because of all the hand activity. I remember the patterns you have done. My Mum does a lot - having great trouble keeping her occupied with projects - she is currenly doing doiles for everyone at the hairdressers (I have so many now   )

Oh and I love your very pretty blocking pins :D

Stunning work. My grandmother taught me to crochet and I've done a lot over the years but I don't do any now because people just don't use doilies these days. I do and I still have a lot tthat my grandmother made for me, she used to use sewing machine cotton so they are extremely fine. Mine are mostly white and ecru and years ago my sister gave me hers and I made her daughter a bedspread using the white ones. She wanted a pink background so I cut that into squares and stitched the doilies on and made it up like a patchwork quilt.

These are beautiful, and not at all like granny crocheting. As for what to do with them. I'm thinking particularly about the wheatear design, which is astonishing. Would it be possible to mount them on a lovely square of appropriate material, and use them as, say, basket liners for bread? It seems such a shame to do them, and then just store these beauties away. Same for the red ones. I can imagine them beneath a plate of holiday baking. All this assumes, of course, that they are washable!
