size of canvas
How big of a piece of canvas do I need for a piece when it is finished will fit a 5x7 frame?

The general rule is to leave 3 inches on each side for framing. Some people leave a little less but I wouldn't leave less than 2 - the framer needs the extra material to mount the work properly.
