increasing size of x stitch

Post by margp »

Hi,I have found a x stitch kit that I absolutely love, however I would like it to be bigger. It is worked on 28 count aida and I wondered if it would work if I stitched it on 14 count.I realise it would take more floss, but feel it would be worth it to achieve a larger finished design.Has anyone out there done this,or does anyone know if it will work without spoiling the finished effect. Thanks

Does the kit say whether it is stitched on 28 ct over 1 or over 2? If it's stitched on 28ct over 2 then it will end up the same size as if you stitch it on 14 ct. You can always substitute the fabric if you prefer aida.

If it's stitched on 28ct over 1, then you can stitch it on 14 ct, it'll just end up twice the size (in every direction). Plenty of people stitch designs on larger counts than recommended -a good place to see if you like the finished effect on a larger count is the Heaven and Earth Design BB as there are lots of examples of the same piece stitched on different count fabrics.
