Question on charts...

So, I'm back after a few months of moving and job transitions...Working on a small chart for a gift...and I've found a symbol configuration I've never seen before and am not sure how to read this. In the chart, it has the symbols for two diff colours in some squares...do I do one of each? A half stitch of one with a half stitch of the other on top? Or something else?

Those sound like they'd be fractional or 1/4 stitches. Here's a link to a topic that has a really good explanation of this--a few good illustrations in that thread--hope it helps
