Stitcher's Arm

I have finally sat down today and got some stitching done but now my arm is killing me. My shoulder feels tired, the elbow weak and achy, and my figure are doing a pain dance. I think I might have overdid it just a little but I did get about half a page done on my Owl Spirit Shield.

I have stitchers wrist,elbow and shoulder.But then that's part of being a compulsive stitcher.

I got stitcher's elbow the other day on the plane! But I think it was because I was trying super hard to constrict myself and not disturb the person next to me. Mostly I get stitcher's hand in the muscles of my thumb.

I've had stitchers neck after a weekend of marathon stitching.
Sitting too long in the same position, with my light not quite in the right spot. I remember that was a rough Monday! I couldn't turn my neck at work- I just told them I slept on it wrong

I usually don't have that much trouble with my arm getting too overworked, as my eyes usually make me stop and take a break every so often. That being said, I took a nasty fall last night while out walking with my son, and nearly did a face plant on the sidewalk--I did, in fact hit my chin and right cheek but luckily, I was able to break the impact significantly by putting my hands out in front of me. Soooooooo now my stitching wrist is quite tender, just glad nothing is broken, other than my pride. In my own defense, the sidewalk did have a nice size hole that is cut out of it--really dangerous. I'm glad I didn't get hurt any worse than I did, just have loads of aches and pains to deal with. LOL

I'm always achy, but I find it's even worse after a long stitching session. The worst is when I'm working with my frame. depending on where in the design I'm working, it can really kill my shoulder.

Thanks Brandi--it definitely could have been much worse--even my glasses didn't get damaged much, in fact hubby was able to get them back to normal with only a tweak or two

I get stitcher's elbow. Most of the time it's fine, but if I do a marathon stitching session at the weekend, my elbow does get tender. I also suspect that the position I sit in to stitch was what caused my back to seize up a few weeks ago. I didn't dare tell the doctor, though, as I knew what the answer would be and it was not an option!!

Karen, I winced when I read about your fall. Hope the pain has subsided.

Right now everything feels normal but I know everything will act back up if I start stitching again so instead I guess I clean.

Brandi I have problems with my thumb from my holding the frame too long (I use a scroll frame) but that's usually it.

My back can ache after a long stitching session from sitting curled up on the sofa in a not great position for too long. Fortunately though it's not a major problem.

Karen - hope your aches after your fall disappear quickly, that sounds really painful.

Hope everyone else is able to keep stitching, though don't push it too far if it's hurting.

I have stitchers elbow too, and I've had to force myself to have shorter stitching sessions.

Karen, for what I know is scary. Falling on your face. I am soooooo glad to hear that you didn't have anything broken or dental issues etc. Hopefully any bruises you got from the fall will go away quickly. I am sorry to hear about your wrist and will keep my that it heals quickly also.

I went back to that movie theater with the "dangerous" steps yesterday. David wouldn't let me go up in the same spot and held my hand going up and down. No slips or slides or falls. YAY! Saw Cloud Atlas. Good but strange and if I had realized it was rated R wouldn't have gone with David!

I've got a stand for my frame. I think the biggest problem is my posture. I have to have better posture when I use my frame. And that puts strain on other areas.

Thanks for all of your healing wishes for me--I'm doing better than I expected and am so grateful that I didn't incur any serious injuries--I even managed to get in my nightly not quite power walk last night.
Carole, I'm glad you were able to return to the dreaded movie theater and I'm glad that David was determined to make sure you were able to navigate properly. Ooops about the R rating on the movie

I am so USED to being STRAPPED UP when I was working in a factory for 20 years, I just STRAP UP in doing my stitching.
I wear 2 wrist bands, a elbow brace, left arm, as that is my holding hand, on left hand, a glove, and a back brace while stitching. I stitch from 5 am-1 pm. 6 days a week IF no INTERRUPTIONS.
I sit in my mother-in-law's cushioned rocking chair with my feet propped up on my computer chair with a small cushion in the seat.
Work Area:
On left side of rocking chair, small table that holds the projects threads.
On right side, between comp chair and lamp table, is a rolling laptop table that can be angle to hold the chart, and afixed to it is a small shelf that I put my ABC books, or 123 book, as needed in MOST of my projects.
Beside the laptop table, is my lamp table, that holds my cell phone, tea pot, tea cup, a magnet strip to hold my needle when changing threads, scissors, and tv remote.
Beside the lamp table is a decorative trash can that holds Charles Craft fabric tubes, as project is done, it's ROLLED into the tubes with info of who the project goes to.
My area looks like a SQUARE U, as this was how my work area at work was for 20 years on a assembly line AND also how my computer area set up.

My shoulder acts up when I stitch if I have to reach, I know what you are going through.
I am waiting for some fabric to start a new project and thought I would knit.... I can't I can barely get a row in, my left hand is so bad, not having the feeling in my fingers I have to grip the left needle so hard I can hardly move my fingers. so very painful. And I was going to knit a sweater.

I usually only get left-wrist pains. I have a cumbersome support-wrap-thingy that's basically makes it hard to do anything with my left wrist- althought I suppose that's the point. Pfft!

I have those for my wrist too! Add in the annoying metal support strip and you can't move anything! I think they are in a box somewhere.

I tend to have more elbow problems because of the fact I try to keep my wrist straight and un-bendy as much as possible but it transfer more work to elbow and shoulders. My elbows literally creak when I crochet after a while which is why I don't do it anymore.
