Rotation queens and kings..

Post by stitchingmae »

Hey
So I have now become a serial starter..and my issue is that I need a away to store the projects so that I can just grab a box and go...I need a box that will fit in a bookbag, that will hold my fabric floss and smaller box with needles and scissors...if possible not clear..Currently I am using huge ziploc baggies but my paterns are getting all wrinkled etc. Do any of you have any ideas?

I keep all my tools in a plastic photo box. I found it at JoAnns in either the scrapbook section or over by the other storage things by the fabric cutting tables. I like the boxes to keep my scissors protected.
Floss goes into half sheet stitchbow holders. But since you use bags,, I would clip them onto a jump ring. Fabric, floss, Snap and pattern go into a plastic zip bag from Office Max that is supposed to fit file folders. So it's big enough to fit copied pattern pages without folding. Or I use the leftover bags when you buy new sheets and curtains. Fabric is just folded- it gets wrinkly but not bad and it will be ironed eventually.
Or look into scrapbooking project boxes. They are 12 x12 and not very deep, maybe 2". Which I'm not sure how well they would fit a spring hoop or Snap. But I've never tried either.

Most of my threads are on bobbins, and each project has its own bobbin (some share bobbins and that's marked on my color key). Each project has its own bobbin box labeled to what project, my patterns are stored in a folder than a drawer until I'm ready to stitch them. Than the color key and the first page are pulled, if I'm almost finished with the first page the page below that page and the page beside it are pulled, placed on my clip board. I have a pencil pouch for my scissors and whatever I'm using to mark my pattern, colored pencils normally, sometimes a highlighter. Extra needles are kept in an empty medicine bottle. And than everything gets tossed into my oversized back. When I was in high school it used to be my "book bag" but its really just a really over sized purse or beach bag.
An Angel in the book of life wrote down my baby's birth. And whispered as she closed the book "too beautiful for earth."

My B/H found 2 laptop shoulder carrying totes in a yard sale a couple of years ago. 1 is for when I have to go to grand girls house to baby sit, they were usually sick when I baby sat them, that holds their POT HOLDER LOOM craft, as it keeps their ATTENTION better, and ANY small toys that ESPECIALLY comes from Grand mom, to make them feel better. The other is when we go on vacations. YES I DO find time on vacations to sew AND read a book.
The laptop carrying bag has a fabric divider inside so they are big enough on one side, to hold my copied charts, that I ALWAYS have on a magnet board, a shoulder zipper thread organizer that holds the threads for the particular project, and inside of the zipper bag, an area to hold my scissors, needle case, and the SMALLEST hoop, IF NEEDED. On the other side, I keep a Charles Craft fabric plastic tube and roll my project, design side INWARD, in the tote with a SPARE hoop, of the size I am using at the time. 3 books, one that has the chart to RECHECK the pattern for SPECIALTY STITCHES, a ABC book and a NUMBERS book, to personalize the baby, wedding, or In Loving Memory remembrances.
I REUSE the Charles Craft plastic tubes OVER and OVER again at home to put the FINISHED project in til I get ALL my projects done for the year, usually 10, ready for framing. I just put the personal info, receiver, if it's a baby, name, weight, DOB, wedding, name, date, or In Loving Memory remembrance, name, DOB, DOD, relationship to receiver, and name of the receiver, and if a gift of another kind, name, on a piece of paper with project.

Just a tip for carrying your scissors on the go...... Knitting needle point protectors make great covers for sharp pointed embroidery scissors. They help prevent holes in fabric or fingers, protect the points of the scissors, and slip on and off easily.

I recently purchased some 8.5" x 11" binder pouches with a ziploc closure on them, but haven't tried them yet. I'm hoping they will work for smaller projects.

I store all my WIPs in the tubes that charles craft fabric comes in. I just roll it up and stick it in there when it's not in use to keep it free of wrinkles and dust. I keep that plus all my floss and pattern for the project in a tote bag that I have hung on the wall. I have 6 hooks & bags so there's always one available for whichever project I am working on. Then all I have to do is grab the bag and toss my scissors (with a cover) and my needle case (which has needles and needle threader) into it and I'm ready to go.

ETA: here's a pic of my stitchy storage area. Some of the bags are behind the storage unit.

I tend to use laptop style craft bags (I have a padded bag my Mum made me styled into sections and 2 DMC craft bags I picked up cheap).

That's for projects on the go - they all carry spare scissors, thimble, needles and hoop and the threads for the project, the pattern and the canvas/aida/linen for the project.

I use these mesh bags, one for each WIP. They are made of nylon mesh embedded in a heavy duty plastic and have a zipper closure. Much more durable than ziploc bags (which I used to use). They come in all different sizes, so I got one big enough to fit my fabric, hoop, patterns (which I keep in a folder), and bobbin box that holds all my threads and scissors. It makes a nice convenient grab and go package.
