As part of the present for my SIL when my niece or nephew is born I want to do bibs, towels and so on. I've got all the patterns but I've never actually stitched on clothing. My local store has DMC wate soluble thread, which allows me to stitch on something and then it dissolves in water. Has anyone had experience in using this?
They also sell bibs with the Aida as a separate part of the bib. Not a huge fan of it just from looking at it.
From what I can tell from the water soluble canvas I just stitch it onto the cloth and that's it. Nothing extra involved.
Has anyone got advice for doing this?

Re: Working on clothing
I've used soluble canvas on one project so far. It was interesting. Even though I hate washing my stitching, I think I prefer it over waste canvas as it's easier to see through so you can make sure your stitches line up properly. you do need to let it soak for a while just to make sure it fully dissolves. I found that when it wasn't quite fully dissolved that it was a bit sticky feeling.

Re: Working on clothing
I use the regular waste canvas and I like it a lot. No stores around here have ever carried the water soluble kind so I can not comment on that.

Re: Working on clothing
I've used the bibs with an Aida band/part of the bib to stitch on and have found them fine. It's a litle tricky to stitch near the edges where the aida meets the bib material, but possible with patience. The bibs I have used, I have found to be good quality with nice soft towelling fabric on the back and edged with ribbon for a smooth edge. If you look in my Random Stitches thread on the Stitch Along section, there should be a few examples of bibs I've done.

Re: Working on clothing
I've done quite a few bibs on the aida inserts. I like them fine. It does limit the size of the design, but I really don't find that to be a problem. I line the back of the stitching with some iron on interfacing. That helps them hold up to the laundry. I also did some small towels. Some I've been in contact and seen how they held up. Looked fine to me. Some of the bibs, had velcro one shoulder, so they are easy to put on and off. I use to find them easily in the stores, but no longer. I am in the process of using up my bib stash. I did see some online, maybe 123Stitch.
Re: Working on clothing
I stitched a design onto a tote bag using waste canvas. I don't remember having any trouble. Just secure it onto whatever you're stitching on, stitch the design, wet the finished design and canvas and then pull out the waste canvas threads one by one.
