Calling all speciality stitch stitchers - Ceylon stitch

Post by Lessa54 »

Wondering if any of our stitchers who are experienced with embroidery stitches (especially old ones since a bit of googling suggests Ceylon stitch is mainly an elizabethan stitch) could help? The latest part of the Papillon Sal includes Ceylon stitch. I get how to do it, but I just can't make it look particularly neat, especially in the metallic that is specified. Has anyone got any tips for making Ceylon stitch look neat? I've tried searching for video tutorials but the closest I can get is Mary Corbett saying she has one but it hasn't been edited yet and so it's not on her site :(

mmm its not in my small embroidery dictionary but I will ask at my embroidery group on Tuesday as many of the ladies belong to the Embroiderers Guild plus we have a much larger stitch dictionary in our big cupboard there so will check it out.

If I get any info I will PM you. Tuesday pm (26/2)

Its similar to a chain stitch

Can you use a strand of metallic and a strand of cotton

It looks like it does not sit neatly

Reta,

Many thanks for those. I'd come across some of them before, but not that last one with the list of stitches. That gives the instruction to fix the loops of the last row down with tiny stitches. I think that will help a lot, though I suspect I may just have to be resigned to the fact that this is a messy stitch.
