Hey all! So I'm wrapping up my first project (check out my SAL, link in my signature), and while it's been in process, I have picked up various other kits that captured my fancy (and were very reasonably priced). However, all three of the new kits are from the Dimensions Gold Petite collection, and upon opening each of them...holy cow! These things look intricate. What's the difficulty on a Gold collection vs the standard Dimensions project? Is this something I should try at this point, or should I take on another one like in my SAL to get more practice?
I don't know what the differences are between the Dimensions kits, but you can totally do these. I've got a few of them and the charts aren't always my favorites, but once you get used to the Dimensions charts, you'll be fine. Remember what we always say: no matter how big or detailed the design, it is still just one stitch at a time.
I always have a few smaller projects going and they are a nice break while working on the bigger, more complicated or more detailed designs.

I have that middle one! It's on my UFO list. I would say it's not too bad at all actually. Its just one stitch at a time. No specialty stitches or fractional if I remember. I think I'm doing the backstitiching wen I gave up. I think that's the hardest part.
Love your choices of charts to do and they are not too hard for you I am sure. Just forget the worlds "Gold Collection" and think of them as ordinary DImensions kits and once you are used to their way of charting enjoy making beautiful pictures with needle and thread.
I have done quite a few Dimensions both ordinary and gold collection in the past and still have about 4 in my stash and just might add the Japanese one to it.
Just 1 stitch at a time and take your time reading the symbols & chart and all will be well I am sure.

I think you are capable of completing these kits. As long as you pay attention, and check your chart and your cross stitch just to make sure you're on count. I think you will be fine because (in my opinion) Dimensions has the best charts. I love the designs that you picked out! I hope you'll enjoy stitching these.
I have the peacock, and a Paris one. I started that a few years back and could not get used to the charts at all. If/when I start another one I will enlarge the chart on a colour copier to make it easier.
Watch your symbols, some are with different numbers of thread, 1 strand or even 4! And some in half cross stitch. But once you've got your head round that it will be just like any other project.
My mistake was that it was my first Dimensions project and apart from the chart issues I had, I had thought it was a quick stitch and was put off when I found it was a bit bigger job than that! It was supposed to be for my uncle and I didn't want to spend time on somthing that he wouldn't appreciate at all....I have since stitched him nothing else. He give me biscuits for Christmas....
Very pretty kits. It has been a very long time since I stitched a kit from anyone, but I remember that getting used to the way a particular company prints their charts is the key. There is no doubt in my mind that you can stitch this. I will repeat the mantra "One stitch at a time" because that is the really important part. If you get stuck, just ask for help and you shouldn't have long to wait for someone to jump right in and help you figure it out. Don't forget to post progress pics! They are all beautiful designs. Have you decided which one you will be working on first?

I much prefer the Gold Kits as they seem to be a bit more detailed in the finished product ... having said that some of their kits come out both Gold and regular for the exact same piece and having stitched both there isn't a difference in those other than little charms for finishing.
I don't think you've anything to worry about - my first cross stitch ever was a Dimensions Gold and I finished with no real woes (I didn't realise I should make a working copy of the chart and had trouble when the original started to disintegrate but other than that no worries at all)..
You can do it! I have done and am currently doing several Dimensions and they are not difficult but can be tedious at times. Like others have said, spend some time studying the chart as there are a variety if stitches ( half and full usually) and thread #'s ( anywhere from 1-4). The backstitching can be tricky to figure out so you may have to wing it at times but they always turn out beautifully!
One stitch at a time!

I echo everyone here in saying to have a close look at the pattern to see what you will be dealing with. Make a working copy to preserve your originals. Remember it's all cross stitch! I find back stitching is not so tedious when I do it as I go along. Nothing worse than finishing a whole piece and then saying to yourself "okay now the back stitching" . I love your patterns they are georgeous. I only have one dimensions gold kit. It's a big wreath with words in the background (maybe of the seasons-I can't remember) but I love these kits. You will be fine! Get a nice cup of or and settle in. Which one are you going to do first?
