Beading Question

Post by Ainjel333 »

I am starting a new project and it has a few beads on it in the cross stitching and I am a little  to ask such a silly question...but do you do the cross stitches first and attach the bead over it, or do you leave that stitch blank and add the bead only? I'm just thinking adding the bead over a stitch would make it stand up to high? But the bead placement on the chart shows some of the beads in between two stitches next to each other. So I'm confused (which doesn't take much)
I've never done any beading WITH cross stitching, only all beads on perf paper.

No expert here because I hate beads and always substitute them for a floss color but in my experience you only put the bead in the space were beads are indicated. And use either the same color floss to attach them or you can use an invisible thread to attach them , although again from my limited experience the invisible thread is very hard to work with.

I usually leave a space unstitched for each bead that needs to be added--and try to use a thread close to the bead's color to attach it. The main thing is to try and attach each bead alike, so that they will all be in the same direction---I usually attach mine in the same direction as what the top leg of my X's are. I hope that makes sense

Thank you Rose and Karen, that makes perfect sense. Now what do you do in the situation where there are 2 XX and the bead placement on the chart is for it to sit in between those 2 XX's ?

In that situation, do the stitches first, then attach the bead. It will sit sort of nestled in the spot between the two x's.
When I do beads for eyeballs and such, its usually in that spot between stitches.

Here is a link that I found very useful when I am doing bead work.

I usually leave the bead work until the very end.

Hope this helps!
