Me again

Post by NinjaBetty »

Okay so yes I have another question as usual. I was gifted a wonderful chart called Celtic Spring and I have been working on it. It calls for rainbow gallery petite treasure braid which I do not have and do not have a dime to purchase any. Is there an alternative that I can use? I would even just use a DMC colour if I could figure out what would match the best. The chart calls for PB01 whatever that means. I am so upset because I really want to keep working on her because she is so beautiful but I don't know what to do. I appreciate any and all suggestions, thanks so much.

Okay doing a bit of research it comes up as a Bright Gold. Do you have any metallic thread at all????? If you do you could sub another metallic Gold with the PB01. If you do not the you could use a color converter and find which of the DMC golds would come closest.

3820, 3821 and 3822 are all good substitutions for gold in my opinion.

I use Kreinick in place of PB, but if you dont have that any metalic thread in gold would do.

I've bought a spool of gold sewing thread at walmart to use before for when a pattern calls for metallics. I know, not helpful if you're on a strict stash diet right now, but it may be helpful to keep in mind for the future. A single spool has a couple of hundred yards of thread on it for about $2.. I bought a gold and silver and find myself using bits of it here and there often without having to shell out for the pricey stuff.

As for what to use now? No idea... what they said above I guess.. :)

I do have a spool of gold DMC embroidery thread, it's blingy and shiny and supposedly triple stranded like the petite braid but I'm wondering if that would work and would I just need one strand? This is the pits lol I also have a skein of DMC gold metallic but it comes in like 12 strand or whatever and have no clue how many to use of that either.

Do you have a corner of your fabric or a scrap piece of fabric where you could try a few stitches of each and see how they look and then decide which you want to do? Another possibility is to use one or two strands of DMC floss (maybe one of the colors that Rose suggested) with one or two strands of the DMC gold. It might not be the exact amount of bling but you can adjust it as you want.

When do we get to see a photo?
