This is the project I've been working on for the last 1.5-2 weeks. My brother is buying a house and I thought this would make a nice house warming gift. I don't have a digital camera and I couldn't get my scanner to work so I had my dad take a photo of it earlier in the week (when I only had the middle house done) but when it went to email the image the memory card in his camer was blank. Everything on it was gone. But I finally got my scanner to work so here is an almost finished WIP (I hope).
From the Signs of the Times leaflet:
My work in progress (I'm going to add the family name underneath the street for a personal touch). I changed the color of the birds because I thought the yellow would look better. I just have the words and the detailing left to do. Sorry about the size of the pics I'm still trying to figure out the editing process.:

"The world, as a colourful knot of threads, has turned into a memory, and now you cannot be sure whether it was real." (Géza Ottlik, Hungarian writer)
What a lovely gift this will be. It's always great when someone gives you something a bit different and personal, it makes you feel really good. So I'm sure your brother will be over the moon with this.
There's nothing better than a good friend, except a good friend with CHOCOLATE! Forget love! I'd rather fall in CHOCOLATE!

I don't think my brother will care very much about it other than it's something I made and it's personal. My (almost) 5 year old niece will be over the moon with it. I had her help me with a small project a couple of weeks ago. She got to cut the threads when I was done because the scissors were just her size. She also got to pick out the color bobbins of thread and put them back when I was done. I told her next summer after she's finished kindergarten I might have a project she could do. It will need to be something small, easy and on large fabric, but I've got a year to fine just the right thing . . . or she could change her mind before then. You know how kids are.

I think it is a lovely gift Pengwenn. Even if your brother doesn't fully understand all the time and effort that goes into stitching I'm sure he will appreciate the thoughtfulness and love that is behind it. To me, nothing speaks of love more than a gift made with the hands (and the ). It is precious indeed.
Did the detailing on the houses and the picket fence today, all except for the 5 french knots (1 each for the birds and 3 for the doorknobs). I hate doing french knots. They never work out for me. I might have to practice a few times before I try it here or maybe do something else. I'm hoping to finish it this weekend.
