How do you finish a bookmark?
I like the idea of frayed edges. I made one as a gift, pulled threads around so it frayed, then glued a piece of felt on the back. And some liquid stuff to prevent the Aida from fraying more than I wanted it to.
But it just seems so wrong to use glue with my stitching.
So, what tips and tricks does anyone else have?

Re: Bookmark finishing?
Well, a lot depends on how much effort you're willing to put in
Sticky-back felt is quick, but is basically pre-applied glue.
You could use felt & fray but attach your stitching to the felt with running stitch in the colour of the fabric, so it is invisible. I use a similar finish for my bookmark kits here
Another option is the whipstitch finish, which means stitching a backstitch outline around your work, then the same outline on a second piece of fabric, and then whipstitching them together. I show some pictures of that method (and some others) in this blog post
Finally, you could use a buttonhole edge like the ones here. These two bookmarks weren't backed, but you can attach felt with running stitch and then buttonhole over it, then cut it out. I'm doing that with some small projects at the moment, and there are some pictures of that method in this blog post and in this one
Hope that's given you some ideas!

Re: Bookmark finishing?
For the most part, I figure I've spent so much time making something, I might as well do it right. I designed one with a stitched picture on each side and attempted to put it together with a Nun's Stitch. (I actually love that stitch.) anyway, it just didn't go right.Mabel Figworthy wrote:Well, a lot depends on how much effort you're willing to put in![]()
What a fabulous bog/site you have. I could get lost for hours wandering through there.
