knitting stitch

Post by fccs »

Am I missing something here? When I look at the diagram for the "knitting stitch" on the right, and then compare it to the chart on the left (right below the purple highlighted area), it doesn't seem to match. I've emailed the designer and am waiting to hear back, but thought I'd make sure I'm not crazy (at least as it relates to this).

I've tried it both ways and I like it better the way it appears on the chart, so that's probably how I'll end up doing it. Have any of you done the knitting stitch and did it match one of these?

That's a new one on me--but I do like how it looks charted better than I think I would if done like the one on the right ---looking forward to seeing what reply you get!!

They look like they match to me. I think the reason it looks different on the graph is because the lines that make the graph look like a portion of the stitch. :thinks:

Do they? My eyes are very tired right now, but what I'm seeing is the diagram has the stitches being on a straight diagonal over two, but the chart looks like it's up one on the diagonal and then over one. (Does that even make sense?) The difference to me is the diagram has a very definite "V" shape to it but the chart is more of an elongated "V" (like an actual knitting stitch).

Now that I've confused everyone even more........

I agree with Debby. They are different, but I also agree that I'd do them as they appear in the chart, not the diagram. The diagram can be an all-purpose depiction of how the stitch is formed, but how it's shown in the chart is what the designer wants you to do with it, if that makes sense. So form the stitch in the fashion shown in the diagram, but execute it as shown in the chart -- which is over two stitches instead of one.

I agree---looks like it would be best to do it as it's charted---at least that is what I would do :)

That's what I did. I'll post a pic in awhile - it'll be in my Colorado band sampler thread.

I like the one on the left better. I'm getting to where I do whatever suits me best in stitching.

A very sensible attitude, I think! After all, you want to produce something that you're happy with, and if that happens to be a little different from what the instructions tell you, so be it :-)

I agree the stitch diagram shows the stitches at a different angle (45 degrees) from the chart (much less steep); I'd stitch a sample of both and see which one Iliked best and then go with that one.

When I finish, I'll try to put together some of the issues I had and what I did to overcome them. :-)
