I am starting to feel really bad about how many wips I have (I have 10). Some I have not worked on in years and then I still keep thinking about starting more!
I just wondered do any of you feel the same? I would love to be able to finish them all and have just 2 on the go. 5 of them are HAEDs and 3 are golden kites so I won't be finishing them for a long time

I was wondering about some of yours, I hadn't seen some in awhile. I have 5 on the go right now, with another one totally ready to go, but I just don't really want 6 going at the same time. These are all HAEDs, so nothing is going to be moving fast. I feel like 3 is the ideal number, maybe 4. I had 3 going last year, finished 1, but really wanted to start 3 others, so here I am with 5, and in your same quandary. And I also have 6 other charts I dearly want to do in my lifetime. Mathematically, these could take me to about age 85.
So, my solution. I'm done buying charts, I love all of these and don't want any more.
I previously worked on a 2 week rotation, this could get me pretty far in a 2 week period, but then I was excited to move on to the next one. Now I've decided to keep on working on 2 of them for 2 weeks apiece to continue to keep seeing some real progress, as these are around 20% done. The other 3 will get 1 week apiece; I'll get to work on them and see some progress, but won't be spending too much time away from the ones that are further along. I'm not sure about that 6th one, maybe that will get thrown into the mix for a week also, when I'm alittle further on those first 2.
And I just keep on looking at the other charts to motivate me. I also just retired; one factor was so I could quit resenting the time that work was taking from stitching. However, now that I don't feel the pressure to squeeze stitching time around work time, I'm more relaxed and tend to just fiddle time away, so I guess it's a wash.
Good luck, I enjoy seeing your projects, and the speed that you are able to do them with, and great that you aren't doing someone else's project now.

I am concerned that it is over a year ago I started Angel and it is still not even to halfway yet but then again I have to keep stopping to do small ones for special birthdays etc this year. I will breath a sigh of relief when Angel is finished and I can get onto some of the stuff sitting there waiting.

Vanessa my dear, I think you can have as many WIPs as you want and starts as you want. You do amazingly beautiful work and you had to put your own work on hold for quite a long stretch this year. I will admit to at least 40 WIPs right now, although only 6 are HAEDs. However, that didn't stop me from buying 4 more in the last sale that I hope to start next year. As for kitted, I think I have at least 10 kitted, not counting actual kits... so, you're good.
That being said, I understand the feeling of almost burden you can have with too many WIPs. I certainly hope to bring many of mine to a finish next year. I hope you continue to enjoy your stitching because we will certainly love seeing all of your updates with all of your amazing projects.

There is such a thing as too many WIPs? I have recently started having more than one piece on the go at once. I love it because I can stitch whatever tickles my fancy on any given day. Of course none of them are full coverage pieces.
In watching youtube there is apparently a year of WIPs challenge going on in one of the Facebook groups. It is interesting to see what pieces people are trying to complete in 15 months.

Well thanks everyone. I am going to try my best and stitch 2 of my WIPs at a time until one is done then move on to another WIP and try my best to resist any new starts (that will be the hardest part). Including my new HAED

I have lots.
I spent my birthday money on three Gecko Rouge kits smallish one's but all I've done is put them in a box so far...
I have a small Christmas and a Halloween chart from Cuoree Batticuore and the fabric.
And Fuijan and Esmeralda ready to start.
I have a Nene Thomas super large project started and on hold.
Two Haed's started and on hold.
I have so many Haed charts some printed off and some on my desktop that I have amassed in the sales, and a wishlist on their website.
I am working on mainly Treasure Hunt Bookshelf and sometimes Suteki for now.
I am completely nuts having so many, but I enjoy the process of stitching and I get a buzz out of seeing them grow bit by bit I don't tend to think about how much I've got left to do, it's too overwhelming
At the moment I've got the materials ready for about 26 projects but as they are all one-evening designs they hardly qualify as WIPs, being In Progress for such a short time - the advantage of being a Small Project girl .
But if large designs are your thing, I don't see why you shouldn't have a good many on the go if that is what you enjoy - it gives you the pleasure of working simultaneously on different designs, and the only drawback (if it is one) is that you don't get a finish as soon as you would if working on one project only; and if you can live with that, who is to say you shouldn't do it ?
at number of WIP some of you have & for hilarious comment. I'd go into sheer panic & total meltdown if I had a lot on hold. Mostly done 1 at a time but last couple of years have often done 2 kits in rotation to ease larger projects.
Good luck in sorting them out Vanessa & look forward to seeing them on here a s you go along

I probably have around half a dozen WIPs at the moment and I've found that when I focus on just one, I tend to forget about the others. I think it's a case of out of sight out of mind. Given the size of your projects, though, that might not be an option for you. If you take a look at rotationstitchers.yuku.com, in the "how do I begin again?" section, there are several ideas for how to organise WIPs into an efficient rotation. It'll also make you feel better seeing how many WIPs others have!
I totally understand the feeling of burden but remember this is supposed to be a relaxing hobby. Just stitch what appeals to you on any given day and rest assured that it will all get done in the fullness of time.
I got five and too embarrassed to tell I bought the Audrey Hepburn and It's a Wonderful Life pattern. Oooh...scratch that, I believe I got 8 projects as of now. The year is almost over, I am going to push for the most realistic projects to be done by January. That will be Marilyn Monroe, In the Garret, & Witch Hazel.
I'm still very much a beginner as I recently bought #8 braids of Krenik braids and cords. I've also bought 1/8 Krenik cords. I have never worked with the cords. I'm tryin to add 'Bells n Whistles' to my projects. I am very ambitious to get a clean back of my projects.
I don't feel so bad after reading the above posts. I assume HAED stands for Heaven and Earth Designs? Those projects are advanced and a lot of work. They look like nice puzzles for me. Hats off to you all

Meh, I've got about that in WIPs I refuse to call UFOs.....
There's no rules about this, we stitch for pleasure, stop the guilt and stitch what you feel like stitching!!! Bear in mind I'm speaking from a do as I say not as I do stance.....
OK, OK, my stitching is actually needlepoint, but if you think npers are "better" than "real stitchers", think again.
I admit I haven't started all the projects I have in mind and plan to stitch, but oh yes, they are on my list. Or at least some of them are. I can convince you I have my hands full for years. My current WIP will soon turn a FO on my part, but after that I must grab another, even smaller WIP and stitch that. I don't know if I ever get a chance to tame my biggest projects. They're way, way too big to fit on the glass plate of my poor scanner, so you probably won't see but one corner of them, they're that big. Even my 16" x 16" projects are too big, so that I must fold them if I want to flash even a bit of them for those, who want to see them.
So the conclusion is you can believe NPers have their hands full too, or at least this NPer has her hands full.
I have about 15 projects on the go a mix of cross stitch, hardanger, machine sewing and knitting and to be totally honest I am getting bogged down and working on almost nothing and when I do manage to drag something out I sit looking at it feeling fed up
Oh dear, that is an unhappy state of affairs - WIPs are meant to make you feel cheerful and pleased! Would it help to choose 2 or 3 which speak to you most and ignore the others for a while? Then when these are finished pick another 2 or 3 and so on? That might reduce the bogged-down feeling a bit.
