Newbie here!

Post by Kute Kitty »

Hi all,

I just joined! You may have figured that bit out already!

My name's Caz, I recently turned 27, I live in Leicester and I've been stitching since about October/November last year. My partner's mother introduced me to it, my mother did some tapestry embroidery but mostly stopped that when she had kids so I feel that my first real introduction to it as a hobby was from my partner's mum.

All my family are pretty artistic - my mum painted, as did her mum, I can't draw for nuts but this is my creative medium. I love it.

I've come here to meet more people who are interested in stitching and similar stuff, I have a couple friends who I've introduced to it but they don't live locally so it can get kinda lonely. Ideally I'd like to start or join a stitching group, but a virtual group is cool too :)

I look forward to meeting you all!

Thank you all for the welcomes :) I like this place already, everyone seems so friendly! I've got pictures on my computer of most of my completed projects so I'll put them up when I've had a proper look around :) I haven't done anything really big or exciting, but the main project I'm working on at the moment (between preparing for Christmas) is just flipping huge, it's a stitched version of a picture my mum painted :) I've been working on it since April and so far it's looking...fairly amorphous, but it's coming together. Slowly :)

Welcome from the West of Scotland! You will find yourself with a whole host of virtual stitching pals here, so jump right in. We love newbies and we are always happy to answer questions or point out threads for you to read: no question is stupid (apart from the one you really, really ought to have asked first...!). :D

The project you're doing of your mother's painting sounds wonderful but very challenging too! Designs like that can look like just a blur of colours while you're working on them, and then suddenly it all comes miraculously together and you've got a stunning project. Do you have any photographs of your mother's painting, so we can look forward to what it'll look like? And do please put pictures of your stitched version in the SAL section, it'll be intriguing to watch it grow!

Hi Caz, I hope you'll enjoy our forum and getting to know everyone. Cross stitch seems like such a simple pastime, yet you'll be amazed at how much you learn here, but beware - you'll soon see your stash piling up before your eyes as you find lots of new things that you never even knew that you couldn't live without any more!!!
