Having not so long ago discovered the marvel of gridding fabric with sulky sliver, I have now quickly moved on from that, past gridding pens to the ultimate laziness of pre-gridded fabric
Recently I purchased some DMC magic guide aida which looks like it has been possibly/maybe? gridded with a red fabric pencil. The instructions for my fabric pens and pencils state that the fabric should not be ironed before the marks have been removed because doing so could make them permanent - yikes! My fabric has quite a few fold lines in it which I would really like to remove before I begin stitching so really I want to pick the brains of all those that use/have used magic guide and hear what your experiences have been with it. Have you ironed it before use and successfully removed all the red lines still after stitching? What I don't want to do is iron, stitch and then discover they won't wash out!

Don't iron it. if DMC say the red will be permanent, believe them! If you are covering the entire fabric anyway, why waste time getting it utterly flat? I know, I know; I do iron linen for hardanger etc., but not for designs where I'm going to be covering the entire thing with stitches. Goes under the heading "life's too short".
Angelite, I would not iron it. I stitched my Fairy with Magic Guide Aida. As you can see from the 2 photos, the lines washed out great. I washed it by hand though, not in a washing machine.

I haven't read anything specifically from DMC about not ironing magic guide but I will take your advice ladies. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks for posting your before and after photos Poppy. Your fairy looks great! I will definitely hand wash too after i've finished my stitching as DMCs advice to wash at 40 degrees seems a little too hot for my liking but it's personal preference I guess. I just don't want to risk it!
