KarinvdB’s 2 sets of 3 - 2019 - update April 30 ‘19

Post by KarinvdB »

As I mentioned in my reintroduction topic in the Welcome forum, I was looking for something simple to stitch. I went to a local craft store that sells cross stitch kits and found two sets of 3 designs that I really liked. They are both Vervaco kits on 18 count Aida, each design is 8 x 12cm (3.2” x 4.8”). Perfect to frame in photograph frames.

The first is a set of Lighthouses (PN-0158159)

The second is a set of butterflies (PN-0155948)

I remembered my Lowery workstand that was sitting in storage (I almost got rid of it *gasp!*) and decided yesterday to take it out and set it up with my teeny 4” hoop. When I wanted to try it out there was a bit of an obstacle

He does match the colors of the stitching so far, I have to admit ;)

I found that I’d forgotten most of what I learned last time, thankfully I did write a lot of it down here, so browsing through my own posts I picked up some of those things again, like putting the hoop inside out and using loop start.

The progress on the first of the three lighthouses so far:

Absolutely agree!! And clear also that feline supervision of stitching is an exhausting task, requiring regular periods of rest and relaxation!

Feline supervision is so exhausting of course, poor wee fellow. :)

Love your 2 kits, especially the butterflies and being small they are ideal to get you back into the swing of things. :)

I love your sets of kits., especially the lighthouse ones. I see that you will get a lot of "help" with your stitching! He is a gorgeous helper.

What an excellent group of designs to get you back into the groove. Oh, and it's clear that supervision is exhausting work. :kitty:

Update time!

I finished the lighthouse and the rest of the upper part. I was starting to turn the yellow half crosses of the border into full crosses but I decided I preferred the half crosses.

Image

Then I decided to finish the border entirely. Almost wish I hadn’t because now it’s clear I’m only halfway done, I thought it was more!

Image

I don’t like squishing the stitches in the hoop.... I ordered a q-snap like frame from AliExpress that is 6”x6” (15cm) that I hope will work with these small pieces of Aida. I may resort to adding fabric to the short ends if necessary, I’d really rather work with the full design in the frame.

You are making excellent progress on this interesting one and I do hope the larger frame arrives very soon so you can easy any pressure on your previous stitching. A lovely update. :whoop: :whoop: :whoop:

I agree about the half stitches, good plan!
It's so bright and cheerful! :applesauce:

Yes! Too small a hoop does squash the stitches and I think causes wear and alters the sheen on them.
I hope you like using your Q-Snap frame 8)

I like the more delicate feel of the border like that - good idea! And the lighthouse is so bright and cheerful (must be because it keeps spreading light :-) )
