When I cleared out my mother's flat after she died I took some duvet covers, one of which was my particular favourite. It was old even then, and a few weeks ago I had to admit that it was no longer mendable. So with the aid of my mother-in-law, who does sewing machines much better than I do, the salvageable fabric was turned into protective flaps for my slate frame.
