Knitting

Post by Sarah Gixxer »

Hi all, I thought you might like to see a few pics of some of my knitting. I've been doing quite a bit lately as I sell them on ebay and at craft fayres and my Mum sells a few to her friends. (My job doesn't pay very well!) I'm finishing another blanket at the moment in blue, pink and white, with lace hearts in, different from the one here. Am going to concentrate on doing more over the next couple of months as there's a Christmas fayre coming up where I can sell some, then it will be back to the cross stitch and I'll try and get my picture of Gilbert finished and framed!

Nice work I love the blanket with the hearts on it. I used to knit years ago and then I discovered that crocheting was so much faster and :ribbit: was much easier to do on crochet when you make a mistake then it is on knitting. Love the baby set it looks very cute. :applesauce:

I know how to crochet but I don't know how to knit. My mom has promised to teach me when I want to learn. I even went out and bought knitting needles at the end of last year but I haven't gotten around to asking her to teach me.

Hi Pengwenn

It's the opposite way round for me - I can't crochet to save my life, but would love to learn one day. I can just about manage to make a basic chain I think!

My Mum taught me to knit basic squares when I was 4 years old so I could do squares in different colours to make a blanket for our kitten. Then when I was about 12 my cousin had a baby so I knitted a pair of bootees for him. After that I was hooked. I seem to be able to make a bit of extra money out of it as well, as a lot of people don't seem to bother with knitting nowadays - the shops are all full of commercially manufactured baby clothes and then you get young mums who can't knit but think traditional knitted things are lovely - so they come to me.

Lovely! I love the teddy!
I've knitted a few things, like a big postman pat and some tiny jumpers and cardigans for my boys as babies, blankets and the like ...but never thought to take pictures.

Jess, I've never taken pictures of the things I've knitted, unless I've taken a picture for example of one of the boys and they happen to be wearing things ...prob have got some like that around.

The postman pat was a joke pressie for hubby before we got married, as we lived 400 miles apart and phone calls were costly (no 'free' calls like now), so we wrote constantly!
So I knitted him a postman ~ not sure how much he appreciated him though!!

This is the same pattern that I used to knit him.

Lovely neat knitting! :D Beautiful work.

But do you find it profitable to sell knitted items? Yarn can be very expensive, and cheaper yarns never feel or look so good, I think. I would never have the guts to sell my knitted stuff for even the value of the yarn, let alone the hours of work put into it! Apart from knitting for myself, I just knit stuff for the prem baby unit at a local hospital. The hospital either uses them or sells them to mums of prem babies and uses the cash to help the unit.

Your knitting is beautiful - like SusanF I haven't knitted for years, but looking at your work inspires me.

Fljotsdale - I'm afraid you are to blame for me becoming a Leonard Cohen fan too. I hadn't really listened to many of his songs, but have spent some time on Youtube - thanks for the link - and really enjoyed them. The lyrics are so deep, aren't they? I've put the Leonard Cohen Collection CD on my Amazon wish list, so maybe Santa will be kind! :D
