This is my WIP the teacher, I left it to stitch my baby samplers etc but hope to carry on stitching it as well as another project, as I really enjoy it.
Sorry it's a bit large

Thanks for those comments, also I wanted anyones opinion about the skirt, the single stitches are done in a maroon colour on the green do you think it would be a good idea to use a rayon or silk instead of the usual DMC floss
This is beautiful. I can't wait to see this growing.
I think personally I would keep to the usual DMC or at least something with a nice subtle sheen rather than real bling.
(This from the bling queen as well! )
I guess because, to me, a school teacher at that time wouldn't have been someone who had alot of money or special clothes, so just the normal floss or just a subtle amount of sheen, would seem more authentic than anything blingy.
That's just me though.
There's nothing better than a good friend, except a good friend with CHOCOLATE! Forget love! I'd rather fall in CHOCOLATE!

This is a lovely project and you're getting on great. I agree with TB about the burgundy stitches - I'd be inclined to keep to the normal DMC as well, for the same reason. It's upto you of course, though - we'll love the finished picture whichever you choose!

I have this chart in my to-do pile, so I'm delighted to see it come to life here. The colours seem much more vibrant than the chart photo suggests.
Are you going to include the wording underneath? I always felt it wasn't necessary and if I did stitch it, I'd choose a different colour thread as the one listed isn't very bright.
Lovely work. I shall enjoy watching this very much.
(Oh, and I'd stick to DMC. L&L generally don't shy away from a bit of bling when bling is required, so I'm guessing bog-standard DMC is used here for a reason )

It's beautiful, and I can only regret that when I was a teacher I didn't dress like that .
Can I be a dissenting voice about the single stitches? After all this teacher may have been a needlewoman herself, brightening up her clothes! Not metallics, I would have thought, but if you use a satin, or better still a silk/rayon which is a little subtler, and choose a dark colour, I think it might look very nice indeed!
Thank you all, it is a Butternut Rd chart and anyone who is thinking of doing it I would strongly encourage you to. It is really easy so far I have not found any fractionals or french knots and there is only a teeny weeny bit of back stitch, how good is that. Why can't all charts get the detail without all the fractionals and backstitch I am loving doing it I am not putting the writing under it as I personally don't think it needs it.
I did think about a teacher not being too dressed up but wasn't really sure as I just feel I might like to do something, definately not metalics as I think it would be too much and too fiddly with all these scattered stitches. I havn't used silks or rayons yet so not sure which of these is the most subtle. I might have to buy a few to try possibly a dark maroon.
Pure silks would look gorgeous, and Madeira is not too expensive (though not quite so shiny as flat silks) -- 0811 would probably be a good shade. Or if you don't mind ordering from America (I can't remember off the top of my head where you are, sorry ) I can recommend Eterna stranded silk, which has a lovely shine and again is not too expensive (1730 Very Dark Burgundy might look good).
I might well order from USA Mabel, I am in UK Leicestershire. I hadn't heard of Eterna until I joined the forum. Do you know of a good website for USA that stocks it, I would be grateful. Thanks
I think I will try a few different ones to see the difference.
They sell through their own websites; they have one on which you can get all the info and details and photographs of the various colours, that's the Eterna one, then if you click on Online Shop it takes you to their other site called Yodama (stranded is the shiniest variety). At $1.05 a skein they're not too expensive even now, but for big purchases you may want to wait until the pound has recovered a bit !
