Do you re-gift!!!!!

Post by Rose »

Yes I have done this I have to very good friends and they some times have given me some stuff that I will just never use. So the next year I have wrapped them up and passed them on to someone that I think would really use it.

Have you ever been caught re-gifting!!!!!
NO I have Not!!!!!! So far!!!!! Knock on wood.

Yes I have, on just one or two isolated occasions... and as far as I know no-one involved was aware of what had happened.
I justified my decision by knowing that the item(s) in question would get more use and be more valued by someone else.

That is exactly how I feel. What good is it if it sets in a cupboard for years on end.

This topic made me smile and brought back a memory Rose.

When I got engaged, a girl I was good friends with bought us a lovely gift. When we later opened all the presents I found inside her one, at the bottem of the box, a card that read 'To Helen and John, ( her and her fiance) Lots of Love and signed by Aunt and Uncle whoever (can't remember now). So obviously a gift she'd got and not wanted.

Well I laughed so much! It really appealed to my sense of humour. I never ever told her what had happened as she would have been mortified at being 'caught out' but it can still make me smile to this day.

So anyone who does regift, check it out very carefully to see there's nothing hidden that would 'give you away'.

I have a similar story to TB but this was much more obvious. My great aunt apologised profusely one Christmas because she could only afford to give me a 10 shilling note (50p today) and said that she normally gave me much more. Well the previous two Christmas´s she had given me a book that still had the price on (7/6) and a set of smellies which she had badly stuck her gift tag on over the previous gift tag. So I was actually delighted with the fact that she could not afford to give more!!!!!!

I have never done it, but years ago my brother used to receive a tie from each of his two aunts, he hated ties, so my mum would swap the ties over and send them to each of the Aunts sons (if you get what I mean) and give Roger 10 shillings to buy something he did like  she was never rumbled as they lived away from each other :D

I don't recall ever doing it but have been tempted. Over the years my aunt and uncle have sent us various Christmas things (cookie jars, music boxes). They are all sitting in the basement in their original boxes. I would dearly love to get my act together and sell them on eBay.

We did for the first time this year. My brother-in-law had given my husband a gift card for a local restraunt (with no expiration date!) for helping him fix his furnace in January. It wasn't a place we would normally visit. So for the White Elephant with my family this year, I put it in a small Christmas loaf pan that I bought for $1 and with some candy. I figured someone in my family could use it more than we could.

Not really along the same lines, but I will also cash in points that I get for doing different surveys for some different internet sites for gift cards for gifts. Anything to help out financially!

I have been tempted before. Also when we move out of Steve's mum's we have a lot of 'stuff' she has bought for us which I hate she really has no idea about buying for peoples tastes. If she likes it the person she is giving it to will love it as well surely! Most of that stuff will either find a home in charity bags or on ebay as no-one I know would like it either

I have sometimes thought about it but I am worried I would get caught out, either like TB said where there would be a 'hidden' gift tag or I had forgotten who gave it to me in the first place and give it back to them

My parents told me about a wonderful re-gifting they experienced once. Every year there was a raffle at our primary school, arranged by the PTA, which they were members of. One year, one of the raffle prizes (they were all donated by families) was a tie. It was hideous. The man who won it was, of course, politely thankful etc but it was just ugly. The following year, the same tie was donated as a prize. And the next year. And the next year. It became a running joke to see who would get this hideous tie that no-one liked as a "prize"!

I have regiven a few others as well.
I just make sure I dont give something back to the person who gave it to me in the first place.

Yes I regifted for the first time earlier this year. I have a box in my spare room now where I store stuff bought over the year to give to people for birthdays and christmas. Included in my stash are a couple of items that have been given to me but which I will never use. I did a couple of years back bulk buy some nice gift sets in the post christmas sales. Unfortunately I had quite a few of each item thus nothing got given out this last year because I couldn't remember who I had given what ! I donated the gifts I had left as raffle prizes and felt :D as it was a good cause.

I am more organised now. I write down what i have given everyone !! so I can refer back and dont end up buying the same boring present for someone year after year!!
Current projects : Tigger bookmark, Pooh xmas coaster
WIP: I dont do mornings cat kit, wedding sampler xmas santa
Planned projects, tatty ted birth sampler, tigger eating honey and going yuk! xmas tigger coaster, snail birthday card.

I have once or twice. I got a set of expresso cups that were beautiful and expensive, but not to my taste. A friend of mine is a total java junkie, and I knew she'd love them, so I gave them to her as part of her Xmas present (I got her something else as well, although she didn't know the cups were regifted). I've also regifted a couple of books that I was given that were duplicates of books I'd only recently bought for myself.
