Summer Sampler SAL

Post by JessB32 »

I have started Sandy Orton's Summer Sampler..I am off to a good start, I think. I'm used to always starting in the center but the chart is four pages, so I started at the upper left corner. I've begun with the sea shells and they're coming along nicely!
A little intimidated by all the backstitching, but I'll take it one stitch at a time :D

Here is what the finished piece will look like:

And here is my start:

It looks lovely and it is such a great design.
The only thing I would say is that it does look very close to the edge of the fabric, are you sure the position is correct?

Jess, I hate to say this, but you look very close to the edge here. Are you sure you've left enough of a border (a 3" border is usual)? I'd hate you to get well into this and then realise it was stitched too close to the edge. I hope I've seen this wrong, cause you've made a lovely start to it. :x: :x: :x:

Oops - just seen that Midge has posted the same question.

oh noooo! I'm fairly new to cross stitching, so I didn't know that 3" borders were usually the norm. I'm going to go take a look at the chart/info again and make sure I have it right.
I did think it was really close to the edge myself...was wondering why, actually. :)

Thank you soooo much for telling me this...I'm going to go double check everything now.

very cute. as the ladies have pointed out it is close to the age and you will have trouble framing it afterwards wouldnt want you to finish this then realise an error.

This is such a wonderful project. You really need to double check and make sure that you have this positioned in the proper place. I really want this to be perfect for you.

What an interesting design! And how fortunate that you haven't sewn much of it yet! Though it's enough to be very disheartening to have to frog, all the same.

Wow! This is a beautiful design! ...but like what they all said...you've really started very close to the edge....but don't worry, I know you'll get this sorted out fast. This will surely be a wonderful design to look forward to.

Thank you soooo much for all the encouragement with this! I spent about a half hour this afternoon rechecking, counting, and double checking everything and I found my start point! Boy, was I off.
After I reviewed all the charts again, I found that my start point IS in fact in the center, so this is making things so much easier!

Just wanted to update you all that I am back on track and off to a great start. I'll post a progress pic tomorrow!

Thanks again, guys, for all the replies! This forum is wonderful - so happy that I'm here!

This is a wonderful piece! Am so glad you got it sorted though before you'd gone too far. That's one of the wonderful things about being part of the forum, you get so much help and advice. :D

Looking forward to watching your progress now.

Wonderful design, loads of gorgeous colours. Your stitching is really neat, well done on the new beginning.
