My very first HAED! "Yellow Haired Witch" is a quick stitch design, but I chose it because it reminds me of me.
I spent all evening last night preparing my threads onto the bobbins, and cutting and gridding my fabric. I gridded the whole thing so I can determine where in the center of the fabric to start.
The finished piece will be 175w x 243h (stitches), or 7"w x 9 5/8"h. My fabric is 25ct evenweave, cut into a 15"w x 18"h piece. Gridded with an embroidery pen (washes out with water).
Here are a couple photos of my gridded fabric. I put a quarter on it for scale.
Now I just have to anchor it to the scroll frame and I'll be ready to rock!
can't wait to see!! i have to get my castle and sampler done before I start mine too! I'll stitch through you

I went from a project on either 32 or 30ct (can't remember now) to 14 again and Kimkats right, the stitches seemed massive!
You'll soon get used to the size of this.

Have you decided if you're doing full crosses or tent stitches? When I look at the picture blown up I can see the holes, but I don't think I could see them otherwise. I have all the supplies for my HAED but I think I got 20ct fabric which is the smallest I can get while still seeing the holes. I promised myself that I wouldn't start my HAED until I was at least 50% done with my balloons. I'm only about 15-18% now.

hmmm To be honest, I don't even know what tent stitches are! So it'll all be full crosses, I guess...
I like having the gridding - it makes the stitching progress seem faster. Plus its easy to keep on track. I'll take a pic sometime this weekend when I have a little more done
I feel like the blocks make the stitching go faster - or at least it seems that way. It's a lot of fun so far, and my eyes are finally getting used to the miniscule stitches...
Although, I must say.... I HATE working with metallics! ugh what a pain in the...
I did another 3 hrs last night, so I'll have to take another photo soon!
Jenny-M wrote:How many strands of the metalic are you using? I only use one strand-gives good coverage but is abit easier to use....might help!!
Well, the pattern said to use 2 strands, but I couldn't figure out how to separate them - it was becoming a royal pain in the neck, so I just decided to use the whole thing, lol.
