Antique or Quaker-style motifs and monograms

Post by Slinky »

I am after a book or charts of small Quaker-style motifs, and antique French monograms, the sort of stuff Ink Circles and Long Dog Designs produce.

Of course, I could buy the charts mentioned above, but before I do, I just thought I'd ask if there was another site/designer I should take a look at first.

I want them to use as motifs/monograms for cards using the fabulous vareigated silks I have just acquired.

Any pointers gratefully received.

I will be very interested in what people suggest as Mabel suggested that I use my dragon floss for initials and such like.

Looks lovely. Someone put some links to alphabets on here a little while back so there may be something of interest to you there.

Those are beautiful, Slinky -- definitely a beautiful birthday present!

Now here did I come across ancient alphabets some time ago... they had scans of out-of-copyright very old booklets .. I'll see if I can find the page again and then post the link!

Here it is!

And you might also like this pinkeep design, which would look great in variegated threads.

Just off the top of my head - there are some lovely Quaker (and other) samplers here. There are a few free motifs on the welcome band (and a few other freebies on the site as well.

Will try and come up with some more - head still stuffed with cold

There are a lot of downloadable old books. It is worth to spend some time and browse them. The ones by Th. Dilmont have alphabets. Also the DMC ones. Good luck!

Rosemary, if you right-click on the links, you should get an option such as "bookmark this link" (the words may be a little different depending on your browser). If it doesn't work, let me know and I'll send them to you.

I find with minethat it saves it the same as it is written in your post, so as you have put "here" that is what it saves it as.

Now you have upset me. When will I ever have the time to do all of the lovely things that you keep on tempting me with? My OH laughs at the number of kits I have and the rest of the stash and then he sees all the website links and asks how long I think that I will live.
