Hi, been stitching for a long time but wondered what other people did when backstitching through the middle of a cross stitch. Do you separate the threads and go through the middle or do you push them to one side? Hope someone can help, Thank you Donna

Not sure I am reading this correctly do you mean you are poking the needle into the middle of a cross stitch????? I have not come across such a thing. When I am back stitching I just let the thread lay on the top of the crossed stitches that are already finished.

hi, hope the above image works but I meant what you said first, sorry if i didn't make sense, the first and third fin backstitch lines on this pattern finish in the middle of a stitch. Thanks for the reply

Thank you Mags I see what she is talking about now. I also agree with Mags as the best thing to do would be a sharp needle through the middle of the stitch. I have seen pattern that do this I tend to take my stitch all the way to the hole on the far side. It is not that big of a deal.

I've had ones like this and if it's creating a very explicit detail line, say for a face that would get lopsided) then I go through the stitch. If it is more random (like just overlay effects to make quills on my hedgehog) then I will shift the backstitch according to what looks the best but goes through a hole.
