one more doubt.

Post by tom_jerry »

Hello,

We shouldn't put the frame(loop/q-snap) on the cloth where the work is alreadydone is it??? Will it damage the work???

It should be on the boundary of the work???

I have descided to use q-snap. but unable to get on the net. shows US sites. I am in UK midlands.

And every time i stop working I should remove the frame???

For different sizes of deisgns I have to buy different frames????

Cheers

No they dont damage the work. I put a scrap of cotton material over the worked area of sts and it protects it perfectly.. :)

I have to admit I do not remove my stitching from my qsnap frame as I havn't needed to go over the stitching  I am not sure what others do.

Re different sizes I think it depends on what size projects you mainly do I have started with an 8" as this suits most of my requirements, for smaller things I would use a hoop but I do plan on getting a larger one that will mix and match with my 8" frame soon. So if I bought an 11" qsnap I could change them and have an 11" x 8" frame. You can get even bigger ones so you can then change them all

I got mine from polestitches but it is a different make, so after you have bought one I would suggest you stick to the same make to make sure they fit

i don't remove mine from my qsnap when stitching. what I do also is put a piece of cotton fabric..doesn't matter what kind, between my stitching and the "sleeves" that snap onto the frame..if that makes sense. I haven't had any ruined stitches.
and I also wash and dry flat and the stitches pop right back

the only thing that may be hurt by the qsnap is beads..i would imagine they would pull off.

I have never removed my work from the frame/hoop that I have used and some projects have lasted for months. I know this is bad but I just leave it on. You can place the frames over the work you just have to be careful with it. But like CF said don't try to cover the beads they will either break or pull on the threads. You will want to get a smaller frame to begin with and try it to see how you get on, some of the larger frames may not work for you ....ie to heavy to hold or too ackward to handle and try to stitch with.
If you are looking for some one to help change you, look in the mirror

I have used loads of different hoops and frames and it really is just a personal choice. My favourite are spring tension hoops as I find these hold the fabric nice and taut. I always take it off when I am done stitching for the day though. Also, I have used a 5" or a 7" on a large project and keep moving it around and I have not seen any damage, although I know a lot of people would disagree with this. Any creases wash out. I can't get on so well with the larger hoops although I do have snap on frames too. Look on ebay as they usually have quite a selection too which you can pick up a lot cheaper.

I just have one 11 inch snap frame which I use for anything stitched on evenweave - I don't normally bother with a frame for Aida. My HAED is too big to avoid putting the frame over the stitched work, but as previously mentioned, the frame doesn't damage your stitching as long as you put a strip of material between the frame and the stitching. I leave my frame on all the time too until I have to move it to enable me to start a new area and even if it's on my stitching for a couple of weeks, it doesn't cause any damage.

I agree with what everyone else has already said. I use a q-snap for most of my projects right now. I haven't taken mine off when I'm done stitching for the day  but haven't had any problems. I cut off some strips of fabric off of a t-shirt that we were putting in the rag pile because of holes to use under the clips.

I always hated using the spring hoops over my stitched areas. I never thought to use protective cloth! Too new to know better. I have graduated to a scroll and I love it! I did find that I wasn’t very kind to it and you can really see the dirt from not keeping it covered while not working on it. I plan to do much better on my next project but for this one, I just keep plugging along.

I was very interested in q-snaps but my local store doesn’t carry them and I miss the immediate gratification of buying stuff online!

I do what everyone else does with thier Q Snaps. But when you still have material hanging down and getting in the way i use one of those lobster looking hair clasps with smooth teeth to hold the material in place.

I use a Q-snap and fold the edges of the fabric back up under the "catches" to a) protect stitched areas and b) keep the edges of the fabric out of the way.

I use Qsnaps and wrap excess fabric over the already worked area to protect from the "snap". I also release the tension on the fabric when I put it away by just pulling the snaps in toward the center so the fabric is slack.
