Agi's "Nature project"

Post by agi »

I bought a frame in the Tesco last week really cheap. I planned to use it for framing my brown Serendipity with it, using another mat, but it turned out to be a bit too big so I will have to find another frame for that - but this one is left for me to use...

This is it: http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.204-8181.aspx" target="_blank" target="_blank - with a dark brown frame and a cream mat.

Since then I have been looking at it quite often and decided I want to put together something: a series of small patterns with a similar colour scheme, all about Nature: flowers, fruits, leaves etc. I bought (psst) some 31 count raw linen because I didn't have anything big enough for it (well, only 14 count Aida, but since the apertures are quite small, I wanted a smaller count - I wanted 32 but only found 31). I am now going through my freebie patterns, have already chosen some, and I will try to put together the threads tonight - to see if I need to buy anything. Hopefully not   - I have no money atm.

So watch this place, after I finish my Friendship exchange (soon!) and finish the Damask Rose needlecase, I will start this to alternate with Blackstone Fantasy Garden.

Any suggestions for small Nature themed freebies are welcome.

I have chosen the following ones so far:

In the middle I will put this:

http://www.stitchcraft.info/freedesigns/index.html" target="_blank
scroll down and look at „flowers”

I will have to cut it down a bit, and I am not going to use linen thread just simple DMC.

Then I will use some of these Mary Hickmott designs:

http://www.newstitches.co.uk/files_to_d ... t_ns78.pdf" target="_blank

and some of these leaves:

http://www.dmc-usa.com/mjRS/1/doc/US_fr ... upatch.pdf" target="_blank

The rest is still a mistery.

If you cannot find things that you really want to include just ask because I am sure that I have loads of charts of fruits and flowers and will happily send them to you if I have what you want. Does Tesco charge much for posting things to you?

Thanks for the offer, Rosemary, I will see if I can find enough patterns. For the moment, I really enjoy going through all my freebies as well as the few magazines I have and the few magazines I borrowed from a friend.

As for Tesco, we have one on my way to school. I do most of my big food shopping there, because it is really cheap and has a quite good veggie department.

I automatically thought that you had sent for the frame because I had forgotten that Tescos is not only in the UK.

I have started it! I worked on it a little bit last night and will work on it a bit more today, don't have much time though since I am going tomorrow on a 3-day holiday to Lake Balaton. Perhaps I will take it with me, why not, there is space in the car... :thinks: The weather won't be very good, anyway...

As soon as I have some photo-able chunk done, will show pictures. :D

Here is the first progress picture. Not much progress, though, don't have a lot of time.

This is the pattern:
http://www.stitchcraft.info/freedesigns/flowers_kit.pdf" target="_blank
But I will have to play around with it a bit because it is too big. I am only using a certain section of the chart, and will try to put the flower heads closer to each other.

The original chart uses DMC linen colours, I tried to find the closest equivalents in DMC cotton, but had to change some of them because the fabric is quite dark. It looks a litle bit "strange" or "interesting", especially with the bluish-grey backstitch, but I like it. I just hope I will be able to find colours for all the other charts that would eventually fit together.
