Fractal Bookmarks - kimkat_tkl

Post by kimkat_tkl »

I gave in on Saturday night and started my on my first fractal bookmark. I've started at the bottom of the design because it is actually the top of the chart. To match the swirl of the other 3 bookmarks I'm doing with this one I had to mirror the chart and rotate it 180°.

Details: 75 stitches x 200 stitches, stitched over 1 on 25ct Antique White Lugana.
This is 960 stitches which works out to about 2% done.

What I hope to end up with is this:

:applesauce: :applesauce: Great start! I'm doing mine 1 over 1 on 22 ct. Does this one have larger areas (more than 8-10 stitches) of a single color or is it a lot of skipping around? I've started the second on in your design set, and it is a lot of small groups of a single color scattered around. I'll eagerly watch this one because I have it in my stash waiting to do, too.

The purple I've stitch so far was all one colour, the corner that's unstitched has 5 colours in it and the other 2 unstitched areas are just the same one colour so I think that it has both :D

The colors are so bright and bold they should be a treat to stitch. But lots of work to get the shading work just right.

I didn't know what fractals were until I got here and now I've got several on my wish list. I love the onces you picked. I'm going to sit and watch this eagerly.

Whoops I just noticed that I hadn't changed one of the formulas in my spreadsheet - the stitches done in the above pic is actually about 6.4% done instead of 2%!

I'm loving stitching this, and I'm not struggling as much as I thought I would with all the symbols being alphabet letters, but that might be because they're all backwards so most don't actually look like letters.

The only problem I have with how much I love this is that it keeps calling out to stitch more and I don't have a lot of stitching time this week - Friday night I'm going to see Paris Opera Ballet (sooooooooooo excited!) with my grandad, aunt and mum, and we have the arrangement that they come to dinner at my place beforehand. As I work the easiest thing to do is make a lasange on Thursday night and just reheat it on Friday. I'm also going out for the supper we have after our adult tap class at the end of each term tonight and will have to some housework Wednesday night before people come over on Friday.

I finished the purple arcs last night (I would have had pics if the work camera hadn't have been taken out on site - how rude! ).

I seem to be flying through this at the moment, I'm already at 12.75% and if I keep it at this rate I'll have this finished in about 30 days! Of course that won't happen as I am going away for holidays in 2 weeks and can't take this with me (poor lighting not suitable for 25ct :( ) but before that I will have 2 1/2 days of nothing to do ( :thinks: what could I do? )

I got it from (WARNING: dangerously addictive link ahead - click at own risk) Cross Stitch Collectibles - they have lots of different ones. Each month they have a freebie bookmark (which is a section out of a full design) which is how I got three of the designs that I intend to do, and the fourth I bought which only cost me about AU$18 all up including postage.
