Fraying

Hi

What do you do to keep you fabric edges from fraying while you work? I have a lot of strings coming out of the edges of my fabric and starting to get worried about it...

im far to impatient for stitching the edges so i just put a bit of pva glue along the edges it dries quick and u can peel it off your hands lol

originally used masking tape, if I had a sewing machine I'd do that.. maybe I need to get mother to show me how >.>

Started my new project with a whip stitch, but it turned into a blanket stitch and I found that easier, and quicker.

PVA glue works for me, but when I am using my Qsnaps I fold the fabric under the bars and it doesn't do it anyway.

For small projects that won't take long, I use masking tape - for larger projects I roughly hem them, as the masking stick doesn't stay on long enough!

Joann Fabric's or any craft store has a product called Fray Check. Personally, I zigzag on my sewing machine first.

i zig zag on machine also but when i don't feel like getting it out, i just use an acid free tape and tape the edges

I use a frame, or a hoop, so I never do anything to my edges, I do leave bout 5cm between stitching and the edge though so if by any chance I do get a few loose bits it doesn't make any difference. The pva glue is a good idea though!

i zigzag on the sewing machine as well.

surgiacal tape works well though. The paper type one from the chemist. It's called micropore in Australia, not sure if you have that where you are. I use that for little projects or when I am too lazy to thread sewing machine. LOL

I've never had a major problem with fraying, and I don't own or have access to a sewing machine, so I usually just use masking tape.

masking tape would work too..i think that is acid free..but if you leave enough extra room, doesn't matter cause you can cut off that fabric..
