Hi
One of my best friends is getting married next year and I want to do them a sampler of all the things they are interested in.I have a few ideas and some charts of little motifs but how is the best way to start designing it. I've never done one from scratch before so all tips will be very helpful.
Thank you!!!

Re: Wedding sampler from scratch!
HI Lisa,
I've designed a few different wedding samplers and I think you need to start with what you want to be the central theme.
For the first one that i did I knew that the Bride loved bunnies so I went searching for a "wedding bunnies" picture that I could copy and for another I scanned the wedding invitation and used the linked heart shapes as the central motif.
You also have to think about how much text you want to have. e.g. just the names and the date or a poem/quote as well...
Then you just need to take a deep breath and add all the bits together and keep re-arranging until you're happy with it.
I'd recommend using cross stitching software for the last bit as it makes it easier to move motifs or make them bigger or rotate them.
Most importantly, Have Fun with it!

Re: Wedding sampler from scratch!
Did you use motifs from magazines? If I scan them will i still be able to put them on the software. Sorry if its a silly question???

Re: Wedding sampler from scratch!
Those are all of the same tips I would have said.
I don't think you can scan and paste. I have never been able to get that to work but I am not very computer smart so it maybe able to work. I just input the designs one square at a time.

If you are looking for some one to help change you, look in the mirror
Re: Wedding sampler from scratch!
If you plan to do more designing projects, Jo Verso authored a book called "Picture It in Cross Stitch". It's full of advice on how to design samplers, some examples (including a wedding sampler or two) and lots of charted motifs you can use in your design.
