Gridding tip

Post by Mumof3 »

Use very fine fishing line for gridding, it slides through the fabric well and can't get snagged in your stiching.

Dropped in at our local fishing shop and found some red Ø 0.3 mm fishing line. Makes a better contrast with light coloured fabric

Great idea, especially for stitching on dark fabrics.

(I usually grid with a water soluble fabric pen, but I'd guess that any fabric significantly darker than the pen wouldn't show the grid lines very well - This would be a great solution for my abandoned Jimi Hendrix project.)

Someone once told me to use holoshimmer thread but fishing line sounds sooooo much easier on the old pocketbook! Thanks!

I bought a fabric pencil plus have used a regular pencil. I just cant picture using thread I know tons of ppl do it but in my own mind my stitches would overlap it and I wouldnt be able to pull it out. Am i just dense in thinking this? beings that i am a total newbie at gridding im always looking for a new and or easier way to do this.

I always use the water erasable pen. If you wash your projects after stitching, as I always do, it's the best way to grid: much faster and easier than with thread.

Dressmakers chalk is wonderful for gridding too. It comes in a triangle shape, so you keep it sharp and it's fine enough to grid 32ct. Usually I simply use a water soluble pencil.
