Profile Help

Post by Imme »

I have been trying to customize my profile for some time now and all I am getting for my efforts is fustration. I am trying to do two things:

1) Import a personal photo as my avatar. I see many of you have successfully done this but it just doesn't seem to work for me. I take one of my pictures into paint and no matter how small I make the picture, the smallest size I can get is 14.4KB (must get down to 9KB). Any suggestions?

2) I have noticed many of you have links in your signiture to the threads for all of your active projects, how do you do this?

Any helpped would be  and hopefully it will help new members as well.

If you use a PC, Microsoft Office Picture Manager can change the picture size for you - I have just tried.

As for the signature: First click on the Profile button at the top of the page, then click on another Profile button on the left, then you will find an Edit signature button. That's it.

Benceagi, thanks for the tips, I never knew about MS Office Picture Manager. however, the smallest I could make a picture was 12KB and it wouldn't get any smaller. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

As for the signature, if you take a look at mine, I've set a URL behind "Autumn of Glory", but I am looking to make it that if you click on "Autumn of Glory", it will take you to the thread without having the URL print in the signiture. Does that make any sense at all?

Oh, yes, I know what you mean, and I kno there is a way... but I am sorry, I don't know how to do it. I remember that our Mabel once showed us how but I forgot. Wait until she or someone else with better computer skills than me comes online and they will tell you. :x:

Avatar - I use my camera's software.
But if you use Microsoft Photo Editor - are you resizing in pixels?

If you replace the ??? in the following with the address of where you are linking to you should get what you are after:

Thanks for the help with the signiture. I have that fixed now.

As for the avatar, I used the Microsoft program and was trying to resize in size, pixels, cropping, etc. and nothing worked to get it down to less then 9KB. I am wondering that when I take my pictures I use the highest resolution setting to take the picture and therefore I can't get the file size down far enough. Maybe I should be taking these pictures in a lower resolution in the first place?

If you want to send me your picture, I can have a look at it and see what's groing wrong. I've got specialist image manipulating software on my computer.

Thanks Angel. I'll take you up on that offer in the next few days just to see if you can tell what my problem is (as I have fought with it for a few hours already).

^_^ Well if I can't fix it...I make a mean flapjack and am down at my mums all the time. My sister loves flapjack and sells her graffic art. So if I can't sort it out, she'll roll her eyes and fix it in one second before retreating with flapjack :P
