..by hand, not by sewing machine cause i am too lazy to get the machine out and haven''t done one in years anyway
so any ideas on how to do one. I want to make a toilet bag with a button closure i think, maybe zip (machine job) still thinking about options for closure.
i also thought of velcro
I think I am going to do it so the case opens up with the picture on the front flap which will fold over to the bottom of the bag..like a trifold i guess.
Assuming you know how to do buttonhole stitch, of course, I would first back the area with fusable web or vilene or something like that. Then mark out where the buttonhole is to be. Do the stitching around the mark, leaving a couple of threads either side. Once the buttonhole stitch is finished, you can carefully remove the two or three threads, and the edges should hold without a problem.
That's the theory, anyway, can't say I've ever done it, but it's the old-fashioned way of making button holes, I guess.
Or even do the buttonhole stitch down the same holes, and cut just a slit between them -- no need to remove threads! (depends on how big the button is, of course)
