Okay so i'm working on my current WIP and it has "back stitching" around some of the designs....they aren't exactly square and the backstitching covers some of the stitching....and it has weird spots to back stitch to like in the middle of the fabrics of the AIDA instead of the true holes...which was fine..I know how to do that..but to me it just looks messy!!! So on the second one I just did long straight stitches....anyways...here is a pic.
A is the one with "backstitching" and B is the one with the longer backstitching!!
Which one do you guys think i should use....i can easily rip either one...i just can't figure out which one looks better.
I went for B as that one instantly looks better than A. As long as your tension etc stays all right. I've found in the past that finnicky backstitch trying to split the blocks can make your cross stitches get pushed out of the way... am not a fan of backstitch overall!
I prefer B and in fact do alot of my backstitching as long stitch, have a look in my gallery at the lady with the dogs and see how I did long stitch simply because it fell in the middle of stitches and fabric, like you describe.
You will see that there are many different lengths of stitches.
When I was looking at the original chart instead of the working copy I am using...it mentions doing longer back stitches to have a more even look to the back stitching and not doing long stitches more than 7 squares....and I was nagging at my hubby last night about not reading instructions...shhh don't tell him it our secret!!

this is one of the reasons i prefer to use the original than make a working copy. i rarely make working copies.
I think it depends on the design what would look better. For something that has blocked areas I think a would be better. But since this design appears to have a funky feel to I think B would suit it better.
