Love the new Q snaps but....

Post by alx008 »

I have been using these for about a week and I love the drum tight tension I get on the fabric, but I have noticed a couple of pulls on the aida where the q snaps have caught the material.
So either I am taking them off wrong - they fit quite tight, do you slide them off or pull them off?
Or the edges of the plastic snaps need to be covered with tape or something as they are a bit rough and sharp
Or I should use a bit of material underneath the snaps to protect my aida

Any suggestions please?

You can use a few scraps of fine material between the frame and the fabric - it will keep the frame snaps from snagging your fabric.

I agree with adding some fabric. I haven't used Q-snaps before but I've seen a lot of people that do add the fabric

I have never used the Q-snaps either, but someone on here had a picture of the craft felt in between their stitching fabric and their frame.... :thinks: or was it on a blog I read none the less it was that really cheap craft felt.

i always use a folded up paper towel between my fabric and the "sleeves". helps keep oil from my hands from getting on the fabric too..and if I've got the time I zig zag stitch using my sewing machine around the edges

When I first got my Q snaps I used felt under the clips, but I was noticing fibers from the felt were getting all over the place on my project. Now I just use strips of cotton as well as a piece of shelf liner to help a bit with the tension.

I use a bit of fabric to aid tension and protect stitches, but the main thing I find that helps is turning the snaps inward (and so taking the tension off) before removing them by lifting them off at one of the ends. Hope that makes sense!

I have never had a problem with the edges being sharp. All of the Q-snaps I have bought are edged to a smooth finish. But it would be a good idea to use some type of fabric to cover your cloth. I also never slide the clips off I always pull them up to remove.
