I am really enjoying cross stitch being a newbie and all and have made the leap to cross stitch on linen. I really like the look of it. I am currently working on 25 count Dublin linen and hope to move on to 28 count Cashel soon. I am however concerned about straining my eyes working on the higher count linens. Do magnifiers really help? I was thinking about purchasing one of the floor stand models but am wondering if prolonged use of a magnifying device can cause any kind of strain on your eyes Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I use a might Bright magnifyer. It is pretty cost efficent. It can run on batteries or the plug in, plus even if I don't have to use the magnifyer I can use the ligh b/c it is pretty bright and makes colors easier to see. I got mine at the hobby lobby near me they are also on amazon.com
I use reading glasses, and my optometrist reccomended I do so... That seems to work just fine for me, and I've been stitching on 32ct for awhile now .

Some designs just cry out to be stitched on linen don't they!
I've found some linen very slubby so I get a bit choosy theses days. I've even spent a bit more in a local shop just so I can feel and see the fabrics. I bought some 'on-line' and I was a bit disappointed in the quality.
So for that 'something special' I'll choose linen.
I agree with you WW. I also use a magnifier, but I'm old and feeble. In my youth, I thought nothing of it, and no harm done. The most important thing is good lighting.

I don't do magnification, however I rely on a daylight lamp. (I got a cheap one at Big Lots). It's amazing how much better you can see the fabric when it's well lit!
Chrissy I cannot count my day complete
