How do I make cord from 6-stranded cotton?

Post by Slinky »

Can anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial, or give me some instructions on how to turn regular DMC into a length of cord?

I am turning a biscornu into a keyring and need a little bit of cording to attach it.

Any tips on doing this would be very gratefully received.

:D

from an artcile in cross stitcher magazine:

1. work out the length of the cord you want.
2. multiple by 3
3. cut for lengths to that measurement (original x 3)
4. knot the four threads together and suspend them between two pencils (it says you need another pair of hands to help :thinks: ) so you have two threads either side of the pencil
5.roatae both pencils together while keepin hold of the centre point with your hand
6. let the threads naturally twist together and then you have a cord

dear lord, thats given me a headche trying to make sense of it.

Thank you Barb, that does make sense. I sort of knew at the back of my mind, but you have clarified the process for me.

Many thanks!!

I think you don't have to hold the middle all the time while you are turning the pencils, just get hold of the middle at the end.

I don't use pencils, I just twist the ends of the threads with my fingers.
