This is a project I'm trying to work on really fast. It's for a friend's birthday in the middle of June. He's served in the military off and on his whole adult life. All the threads are specialty threads except the white and blue in the flag. The green in the toe of the boot is DMC 522 which after I stitched it I didn't like it so I went to a shop and found something else. Now I've just got to take out what I did and use the new thread. The new color is ThreadWorx overdyed #1069. The other colors are Crescent Colours Ginger Snap, Simply Shaker Cidermill Brown, Gentle Arts Holly Berry, Maple Syrup and Forest Glade. I also found some charms to attach to the piece. I have two small ovals with the words Honor and Courage. I also found some charms that look like dog tags. I'm going to see if I can find a jeweler to engrave his initials on the dog tags. The fabric is "Ancient" from 123Stitch.com When it's done I'll do a bigger picture to get a better feel for the fabric.
Here's my progress (4 days worth)
Here's what it should look like

I am soooooo glad I changed colors. It looks so much better. I'm also going to change the color for the laces. The pattern says to use the forest green but I think I'll use one of the browns (the color in the boot or the color for the flag pole). With all my large projects on the go it's kind of weird to be working on a small one and almost finishing so soon.
