Re: Bookmark exchange #1 - Sign up closed!

Posting date is September 15. Still some time left to get the stitching done! I will put a mail out list by September 7th for any early birds who would really like their mail to be on their way.

Re: needle despair!

I've been using the same Piecemakers' Tapestry needle, size 28 for the past five months! Hasn't broken on me yet... I think it might be a bad batch of needles... :thinks:

Re: Adding extra fabric?

I find that having an extra 2" or 3" on all sides is a good bet. Anything under 2" is extremely difficult to frame. 1.5" is an okay allowance if you plan to convert your needlework into a cushion. Personally, I favour a 2.5" allowance on all sides for my projects. Hope this helped. :rose:

Re: Bookmark exchange #1 - Sign up deadline Aug.15!!!

... the stitched area is slightly more than 7" which I hope is ok. With the ribbon, it's a longer in total. I found something to do that used some specialty stitches and overdyed threads. Now I want to make one for myself! *smile* Once school starts up again, I won't be able to get things done so ...

Re: Large patterns?

Thanks for the links, Maemae. Not quite what I was looking for though... You know how in designs by Joan Elliot and Nora Corbett, they make use of about 20 colours at the most and make the most amazing patterns using shading effects, metallics and beads while letting the background fabric show? That ...

Large patterns?

I was wondering if anyone here can point me towards a collection of large cross stitch designs that are not HAED or Mystic Stitch. I'm looking for designs of the style Lesley Teare and Joan Elliott favour. Any ideas where I can search? My mother complained that my cross stitch patterns are never ...

Re: Ebook readers

As someone who has used the Sony PRS-700, iPad as well as the Amazon Kindle, the Amazon Kindle wins hands down. Better interface as well as cost efficient. Sony PRS-700 is impossible to read unless you are in a very well lit environment. The iPad is just difficult to handle, not very well designed ...

Re: Hoops/Frames Suggestions

I am completely in love with my Handi-Clamps scroll frame, and would recommend them any day. You can get it from Herrschners and Nordic Needle. Makes working with large canvases a breeze.

Hmm... Thanks for clarifying, Mig-3. I think 14 count crystal aida, hand-dyed is exactly what I need. Everyone, thanks for all your help!

Re: Does this fabric exist?

Well, I wanted deep blue fabric with some bling quality to it... I guess hand-dyed would do the job. I'll look around some more. I did have a question. What exactly is "Crystal Aida"? I came across it when browsing "Picture this Plus". I've only ever used regular Aida.

Does this fabric exist?

I'm looking for a 14 count or 28 count piece of fabric in deep blue or royal blue that is also opalescent/sparkly. The fabric needs to measure at least 18" x 18". Is there any manufacturer that makes this kind of fabric? I've tried looking around some online retailers and have been unsuccessful in ...

Re: Bookmark exchange #1 - Sign-up here!

I waited for 10 votes, and the count thus far is:

Not Secret (2): Murmured, kell
Secret (8): starchild202, LauraUK, grub72, mauveme, jerrylee18, pixxie, K1nS, Kute Kitty

So I guess, secret wins! I think on the next bookmark exchange (sometime next year), we will make it one where we post pictures ...
