This is looking great and to me the coverage looks fine, what count is the fabric? I know we're always critical of our own work but from a distance, like when it's finished and framed! the white bits won't be so noticeable :)

Hi Louise, it's 14 count Aida. I've been doing 3 over 1 on it (full cross stitch) for my wedding photo project and I love the coverage there, so I'm sort of surprised that 6 over 1 with tent stitch shows so much through. Ah well!

This is quite a challenge - must be hard stitching so much in dark colours. I have a couple of questions: what programme do you use to create patterns? There are a few terms I don't understand ('scuse my ignorance): what is confetti and what is a tent stitch?

Thanks! Unfortunately, he has chronic renal failure. :( He is feeling somewhat better (we think!) after being diagnosed and getting medication -- we give him injections of fluids every other day and that seems to have perked him up a bit. He won't recover from it, sadly, but he's 14 years old and the meds seem to be holding back the inevitable for the time being (the vet thinks he could conceivably live a couple more years in relative comfort).

The program is called "Stitchtastic" for the Mac. I really like it so far; this is my third project using the software and I think it does a great job. There are many more options if you're running Windows but I certainly can't complain about Stitchtastic!

Confetti is when you have one stitch of one color, then one stitch of another color, etc etc. Basically, little dots of color instead of a nice long neat and tidy line. The more confetti there is, the harder it is to look neat and tidy (at least for me!) because you have to either run the thread along big sections of the back until you get to the next place that color is used, or you have to cut the thread and tuck the end under the very small section you just did.

Tent stitch (also called continental stitch) is essentially a half of a cross stitch (instead of an X, it's just a / ). There's a slight difference between a tent stitch and what's called a half stitch though. Since it's 3am here -- dang insomnia again -- I'll cheat and post a link to an explanation instead of trying to explain it coherently myself:

Man, I hope that made sense, I probably shouldn't try to explain things in the middle of the night.
