HAED: Moonstones -- 29 Dec 2011 Update: Page 2 Finished

Post by Ketta »

I added this to my rotation when the cuckoo wasp's confetti was really irking me. That sort of thing doesn't usually bother me so much, but apparently I needed a break!

Here's what it should look like when finished:

Image

I'm not sure what I'll do with her when she's finished. I really liked the colour scheme and design, even though I don't normally gravitate toward art like this as a cross stitch project.

I love big projects with lots of detail, and I knew I'd like HAED patterns. However, the true scope of it didn't smack me between the eyes until I was working on getting the first page done. What's nice about HAEDs is that you can calculate stitches done easily, and now I know my speed (which isn't terribly fast since I stitch in-hand). So.... yeah. This has 30+ pages! I have new respect for people who do these, and while I know I'll finish, it will be ages before I do!

Anyway, here is my progress so far, stitching off and on (about 1-2 hours a day, depending on mood, work, etc) for two weeks (stitched on 28 count evenweave, 1 over 1):

Image

Not sure why the whitish stitching is showing blotchiness... it looks a bit better in person. And ohh.... I dearly love my two black kitties, but for this project they're not allowed in my lap. It will probably take a little longer to finish just because of that (it's always nice to have a furry purring bundle when I get comfy to stitch. :)

I have 2 cats and neither of them sit on my lap when I stitch, yet someow I always end up with little stripy hairs as part of the finished piece...lol ;) you gotta love em though, the cat hair is the Piece de Resistance!! x

:applesauce: that is going to be magnificent. It is looking really good already. You have made a lot of progress. Cat hair just goes with the territory. I have given up aguing about whether or not my lap belongs to me or laverne. She is cat. She wins.

Thanks everyone, for your wonderful comments, and moral support when it comes to cat hair.. LOL. Oh, and get this... I'm going to house sit for my stepmother for about ten days starting next week, and I'll be taking my projects with me. She doesn't have any cats (but she does have dogs), so I'm taking one of my cats with me. It's true, I'm completely at the whim of my cats. :) Perhaps at some point I'll post pics of them....

Anyway, page one is finished. Onward to page two! It FEELS like I've stitched a lot, but it's just this one bitty corner that's done!

Congrats on finishing your first page!

My dog is smaller than some cats and loves to sit in my lap when I stitch but it can get kinda crowded. Luckily, he'll accept sitting on my head, perched on the top of the chair, as a close second. I just consider him as a furry hat. :D

I have to make sure Laverne (who is sitting by me now and patiently waiting for me to return to OUR cross stitching) doesn't find our that your dog, Raine, sits on your head. I don't need 13 lbs of cat trying that trick.

Kette, Love your first page. It may seem like only a small bit, but a page is a page is a page and that is a lot of stitches. And looking really good. Can't wait for the next update. Cat and dog hairs included

Hooray for finishing a page! It's looking great. Have a good time house-sitting with the dogs and cat. :)

Raine: I am so glad my cat doesn't do that! My dogs at 60lbs and 40lbs each both already think they're lap dogs, and my cat at 5-6lbs? will wrap himself around my shoulders like a ruff, but so far my head has been safe. :)
