Hardanger House

Post by MaggieM1750 »

Here is my Christmas Hardanger House.
Its the same project 3MadSpaniels did about a year ago.
Its from a Better Homes and Garden design book.
Layered hardanger piece with cut out windows over a cross stitch piece with the Christmas tree.
Working on 28 ct. laguna for the house piece and 36 ct white linen for the tree piece. Most of what I have stitched so far has been with #8 pearle cotton.

I was hoping you would update this one when I looked at your other post! This is looking fantastic, the contrast is good on that fabric. I hope you love stitching this one as much as I did!

It may be hard for you to get your hands on a copy Jocello over in England. But there are cheap copies available on US Amazon.. so maybe they will ship internationally.
It is a hardcover book, 101 Best Loved Designs from Cross Stitch and Country Crafts, published by Better Homes and Garden magazine in 1996.
It has a nice variety of stitches to learn- rice, twill, queen, long armed cross, eyelets.. but they are all diagrammed in the instructions.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/069620 ... e=&seller=" target="_blank

And well, because I can never entirely follow directions- I've switched out the top layer fabric. It called for a 25 ct Dublin Linen in Platinum (which is actually tan, not a white which is what I was expecting) It was hard to track down- and after I bought it, I switched it out after only having stitched 1/2 the roof line. It was too loose of a weave, and I didn't like the slubby nature of the linen. It made my stitches look uneven and that I had missed some stitches where the weave thread was a bit thicker. So I switched it out for a 28 ct lugana- and I am much happier with it. I'll have to adjust the spacing of the tree and light fixture on the under fabric- but I think I'll be ok.

Good luck.. it will be fun to see others stitch this design.

Thanks for the info, Maggie! I'll be adding that book to my wish list.

Jo, since it's an older book you can try looking at abe books. When I searched I founds some results for shops in the UK.

I've loved this project since Paula stitched it and I didn't know it was book with other beautiful designs. I don't know when or if I'd stitch this one but I found the book on Amazon under the used and just bought it for 4 dollars. :)
