Thank you all for your comments on my new shower. Actually, I shouldn't even be posting this now as I was supposed to be in Las Vegas. Having a crazy fun week-end with my sister, cousin and cousin's daughter. It's a long story but I will try to be brief and then everyone, the drinks are on me!

Last Friday (the 11th) I was on a 6a.m. flight to Atlanta transferring to a flight to Los Angeles where my sister was to pick me up at the airport and we were going to drive the 4hrs to Las Vegas. We had reservations and tickets to three shows. One Sat, one Sun, and the last one tonight. When I landed in Atlanta, I texted my daughter that I had landed and she texted me back and asked if I had heard about the fires in California. One of which was only 28 miles from LA in a section called Porter Ranch. Which is where my sister lives. A frantic call found her at a friends house where she had to quickly evacuate to early early Friday morning. She got out of the house with her purse and her dog. And she told me, the trip was off. The fire had come pretty close to her house. But they were safe and that is all that mattered. So I got my ticket changed for a flight back to Charleston, had a nice breakfast at the airport in Atlanta and returned home.

Fortunately, my sister's house was not damaged in the fires though several houses, wishing 4 to 12 blocks of hers were burned and there was plenty of charred grass and bushes she passed on her way home yesterday afternoon when the evacuation order for her area was lifted. This happened to her about 10 years ago also. The only emergency we were worried about when planning an October trip, was the possibility that a hurricane would be heading for me, especially when there were all those named storms in the Atlantic. I generally don't trust September or October for planning anything.

But it all turned out good and everyone is safe and that his what matters, though it is also very good that the house didn't burn down.

So drinks are on me and all the food you can eat too!!!! Good to be back even though I wasn't really gone anywhere @rotfl:

Raising a glass of thanks that your sister, her dog, and her home are safe. California fires are scary...and very common. I mean, it is October. My d-i-l’s brother’s family lives in that area (Newbury Park). They were safe and didn’t have to evacuate this time, but they were keeping watch.

So basically you went to Atlanta for breakfast. Nice.

!!!!!
Wow, that was close.

Maybe it's time for those in California to take the Australian approach to bush fires. Small, frequent ones near the houses to act as a firebreak by burning off the vegetation/fuel before it can build up enough to be dangerous.

Glad everyone's OK, though.

Richard.

:coffee: and :cake: while I make a list of stuff that has to be ready for my EG branch's November meeting. We have a sales table for which we all make bits and pieces, and this year we are to decorate a paper bag (how? any ideas?) and put something nice in it as a sort of Secret Santa thing. Before that, of course, is Stashmas, which I've got a reasonable handle on. :king: Whew!
Can I confess something? The sales table often is the recipient of small WIPs or occasionally UFOs -- I might have tried something and it worked ok, but I didn't have a home for it. Huzzah! Other people seem to think these bits and pieces fit their bill, so that's a very good thing. :gift:

What a great way of finding a good home for those projects!

As for decorating the bag, is it sturdy enough to pierce and use like perforated paper?

I don't think so -- it's your ordinary small brown bag with a handle. I'm thinking of using a bit of Christmas fabric cut into a nice shape (I could use my cookie cutters for templates! -- result!), bling it up (even more) with a bit of stitching and maybe beads, and then glue it to the bag? Or maybe I'll play around with bits of felt? Something like that, I guess. Then there's what to put into it and what price for it...

Too much for my brain at the moment. Threatening to come down with whatever lurghy has laid DH low for the past week. But I REFUSE. Think that'll help? Nah, me neither. :tea:

The best way out would be to make a nice quilted bag and put the paper bag into it- that would be the fastest and neatest decoration. Sadly, I did not quite understand about what has to go into the bag.

 Neither do I! Something nice — not sure if it has to be stitch related. I’m at our branch committee meeting on Tues., and I’ll ask ‘for a friend’, you understand!

I wasn't sure whether to come here or go to St Cross Stitcher's, but I don't think Brexit Brain (headaches and steam coming out of the ears after following the debates for too long) is a recognised medical condition.

There's only one thing for it: hot chocolate with a tot of something stronger and lots of marshmallows!

Watching anything related to politics can bring steam out of any and all orifices. Which is one reason I subscribed to Britbox so I can watch tons of British mysteries (I have discovered Silent Witness, Jonathan Creek, and others and new seasons of Vera and Shetland and re watching many of my old favorites - easier to watch murders on another continent). Looking forward to the Disney+ streaming service too. Escaping from reality now and again makes it easier to face the real world. Now that its cooling off, hot buttered rum or a cup of Irish Coffee with lots of whip cream and a good mystery makes sense to me!

I'm afraid that Brexit Brain is one of the reasons I have stayed away and quiet for so long! :tantrum: :tantrum:
I seem to have lost all my energies and the whole sorry saga of that wretched 'B' word has almost lost me the will to do anything!

We worry about our future here plus the effect that the UK is also suffering through what we consider to be a fiasco!
Comedies, Doc Martin and repeats of Vera are on our watching lists plus that wonderful satirical 'Have I got News for You' which brings it all into perspective.

So pour me a Large Malt and find me a Flapjack to nibble and I'll paint a smile on my face whilst sitting in that comfy chair by the window to watch for the Unicorns!

As sensible a course of action as any I have heard proposed :-) . Don't forget to watch the puffins as well - they love swooping between the unicorns' legs with a beak full of sand eels.
